ABC General Hospital spoilers tease that daytime dramas revel in outlandish plots and yet some strain credulity even for a soap opera. The year 2020 was pretty unbelievable in and of itself and yet there were several plots that pushed the envelope even further. Here are the five most unbelievable GH stories of 2020.

#1 Liesl Obrecht’s get out of jail free card

General Hospital’s Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) was sent to the Hague for crimes that Peter August (Wes Ramsey) committed, but that’s not the weird part, it’s getting odder. Somehow she charms a psychiatrist (Warren Kirk (Christopher Cousins/Jamison Jones) to spring her from her cell. Even that’s not the strangest part. Somehow she convinces him to release his PTSD patient Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) but not before brainwashing him to take down Peter.

#2 Julian Jerome finds out Kim Nero had his baby

This is a head-scratcher, in part because Julian Jerome (Wiliam deVry) has been let go from the show. And yet he’s still there. Anyway, his sister Ava Jerome (Maura West) is about to shoot him dead when Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) bust on the scene and Julian somehow falls off the balcony. He winds up in NYC at Kim Nero’s (Tamara Braun) place where he hears a baby crying and the babysitter misleads him by saying the baby’s name is Andrew, when in fact it’s Julian’s kid, not Drew Cain’s (Billy Miller).

#3 Cyrus Renault takes over Port Charles and GH

Never has anyone come on General Hospital and taken over every facet of the town as quickly as Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) has. He is nothing more than a mob boss and a drug pusher and yet within months he is Chairman of the Board at GH, he has triggered several deadly explosions and managed to menace innocent teens. Not a nice guy.

#4 Sam McCall tells Jason Morgan to move out

JaSam fans are going to need a lot of tissues before they get over Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) telling Jason Morgan to pack his knives and go. General Hospital has done the seemingly impossible by breaking this two ride or die lovebirds up and it’s incredibly unbelievable. That’s because Sam just isn’t that smart. Nor does she have the backbone to give up her one great love to keep her family safe. If she had the courage of her convictions she would have dumped his leather-jacketed torso long ago.
