British royal family news reveals that royal weddings provide pomp and circumstance but not all unions have stood the test of time. Here are six royal marriages that sadly ended in divorce.
Royal Family News – Prince Charles And Princess Diana And Prince Andrew And Sarah Ferguson
Perhaps the most high profile of the divorce bunch are those of Queen Elizabeth’s elder and middle sons.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana wed in 1981 and became parents to sons Prince William and Prince Harry in 1982 and 1984, respectively. Charles and the late Diana’s marriage did not last sadly, and by 1992 the pair were leading separate lives; their divorce was finalized in 1996.
Unlike Charles and Diana Andrew and Sarah knew each other since childhood. They married at Westminster Abbey in 1986. Their daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were born in 1988 and 1990, respectively, and the latter gave birth to the pair’s first grandchild this week.
The couple announced their separation in 1992, and divorced four years later but they still live together at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Royal Family News – Princess Anne’s Son Peter Phillips And Wife Autumn And The Earl And Countess Of Snowdon
In February 2020 Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn announced their separation. The couple have two daughters, Savannah, ten, and Isla, eight.
Peter and Autumn confirmed the end of their marriage in a statement that included, “Both families were naturally sad at the announcement, but fully supportive of Peter and Autumn in the joint decision to co-parent their children.” To this end the pair continue to live at Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.
Shortly after the Phillips’ announced their split, Princess Margaret’s son David Armstrong-Jones and his wife Serena (the Earl and Countess of Snowdon) announced their impending divorce after 25 years of marriage. They married in 1993 and share two children, Viscount Linley, Charles Armstrong-Jones and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones.
Royal Family News – Lady Davina Windsor And Gary Lewis And Princess Anne And Captain Mark Phillips
In 2019 it was announced that Lady Davina Windsor (the daughter of the Queen’s first cousin, the Duke of Gloucester) and her husband Gary Lewis divorced after 14 years of marriage. Buckingham Palace confirmed the news stating: “Lady Davina and Gary Lewis were divorced last year [2018]”. The couple married at Kensington Palace in 2004 and New Zealand-born Gary was the first person of Māori descent to marry into the royal family. They have two children, Senna Kowhai and Tane Mahuta.
