Bones’ star Emily Deschanel will appear in The Rookie as Nathan Fillion’s onscreen ex-wife. The Rookie is an American procedural television series said to be based on real-life Los Angeles Police Department officer William Norcross, who joined the department in his mid-40s. Since the movie’s premiere on October 16, 2018, it has been averagely rated by critics.
Emily Deschanel’s Role In The Rookie
Deschanel’s casting and character entrance was revealed late Sunday night in a promo for The Rookie’s next new episode, airing May 2 on ABC. Deschanel will appear on the show as the lead character John Nolan’s ex-wife Sarah.
Nolan’s wife was introduced during the premiere season of the show with a sketchy storyline. It was established that Sarah got pregnant with Henry while she and John were still in college, thereby prompting John to drop out of college and start a construction business. Their marriage grew strained many years later and they agreed to divorce and go their separate ways once Henry left for college.
It was a surprise to fans of the show to hear that Deschanel and Fillion will get to share an on-screen relationship in the series. We would have loved to see the romance, but well, that’s history.
What To Expect In The Upcoming Episode Of The Rookie
Sarah and John Nolan’s adult son John mysteriously fainted on a trip to L.A. at the end of the April 18 episode and was rushed to the hospital. We don’t know how serious or permanent their son’s condition may prove to be, though there’s a subtle hint that his condition was grave in the promo.

“Brave Heart” is set to pick up immediately where the last episode left off, with the introduction of Emily Deschanel of course. Obviously no one wants John to die or suffer since he’s had his share of setbacks, but we’ll see how dramatic the upcoming episode gets.
There’s no mention of how long the Bone’s Temperance Brennan actress will stick around for this season, would she be staying for what’s left of the season, or is it a one or two episode stint. Better still, will we get to see her in season four of the show?
The brief hiatus for the series is related to the Academy Awards, which is something that basically happens every year. Admittedly, it happened a bit later this year.
