Royals News: Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Strikes Deal With Company Who Sells ‘Racist’ Cream

Royals News: Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Strike Deal, US Company Sells 'Racist' CreamBritish Royals news confirms that Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle are causing controversy once again. They made a deal with an American company. So, what is the controversy with that? This particular company sells a skin-lightening cream that critics say is racist. The particular products reduce the appearance of concentration of melanin, which gives skin its color.

Prince Harry’s Big Move

Royals news states that Harry and Meghan have been dominating the headlines for quite some time. However, since their official exit, dubbed “Megxit,” and move to North America, everyone has been watching their every move. They are now facing backlash over their decision to partner with a popular US company, which is a household name.

Meghan Markle’s Race Conversations

This particular company is Procter & Gamble, which nearly all Americans have heard of. They sell a variety of products. The controversy comes due to a specific line of products, which critics say are racist. Due to Meghan’s many conversations about race and racism, some people are shocked she would even consider striking a deal with Procter & Gamble.

Royals News – Deal With Procter & Gamble

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the announcement last week, according to Daily Mail. Their Archewell Foundation signed a “global partnership” with Procter & Gamble. It earns millions of dollars each year selling “racist” creams in Asia and Africa. Harry and Meghan’s foundation claims that the deal will help “build more compassionate communities.”

Procter & Gamble owns Olay, another major household brand name. It sells White Radiance in India, Singapore, and Malaysia. It promises to give users a lighter skin tone. In the Phillippines, the company sells Olay White Radiance Light Perfecting Essence, which “inhibits melanin formation in the deepest layer of skin.” In Nigeria, there is Olay Natural White Cream, which says it will give customers a “pinkish fairness” to their skin.

‘White’ Creams, Environmental Destruction, And More

A former P&G executive spoke out about the situation. Alex Malouf said that Harry and Meghan will be pressured to state whether they support the sale of these skin-lightening products or not.

“Meghan has talked a lot about the issue of race and racism, so this does stick out like a sore thumb.”

That’s not all, either. One of P&G’s biggest palm oil suppliers, FGV Holdings, has been accused of abusing and exploiting workers in Malaysia. Procter & Gamble played a role in the destruction of virgin forests in Canada to make loo roll. It reportedly buys a massive amount of wood pulp from the area. An American environmental organization discovered that the wood pulp suppliers were destroying the habitat of an at-risk species of reindeer, the woodland caribou.

Skin-Lightening Creams – P&G’s Excuse

Many cosmetic companies have been pressured to stop selling skin-lightening creams. However, it is a multi-billion dollar industry in Asia and Africa. They are in high demand and many cosmetic companies don’t want to part with the money. When they are confronted, many claims that the use of skin-lightening products is “deeply rooted in colonial history.”

As for P&G, it has no plans on giving up the profitable skin-lightening creams or even removing “lightening” or “white” from the product names, as L’Oreal and Unilever chose to do. Instead, the “white” creams are being put in the same category as tanners or make-up.
