Queen Elizabeth Has A New Special Friend

Following the death of her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, on April 9, Queen Elizabeth also lost one of her precious 5-month-old Puppies named Fergus.

After the death of Prince Philip, the Queen reportedly kept up her spirits by spending time with her family and by walking her dogs. The dog was one of two puppies gifted to the monarch earlier this year (the other one is named Muick).

Queen Elizabeth has a special love for dogs, Corgis in particular, and has owned a lot of them during the course of her life. In a few cases, the Queen has found it necessary to take a picture with her dogs and have once openly stated that her corgis are family.

Queen Elizabeth Receives A New Puppy On What Would Have Been Prince Philip’s 100th Birthday

The 95-year-old monarch received a 6-week-old Corgi from her son Prince Andrew and his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, according to an article published by The Sun. The report stated that The Queen had been given the dog on Thursday, the day that would have marked the 100th birthday of her late husband.

The gift comes just a month after the death of Fergus, one of the two puppies she received as a gift while her husband received treatment in the hospital earlier this year.

According to a royal insider who talked to PEOPLE about the incident, the Queen was saddened by the loss of the dog.

Fergus is said to have been a dorgi (a corgi crossed with a dachshund), and was named after the Queen’s late uncle Fergus Bowes-Lyon, who died during World War 1 in 1915. The other dog, Muick, is named after a favorite spot near Balmoral Castle. The two puppies joined Candy, a corgi owned by the Queen, upon their arrival and has been pictured accompanying the Queen on walks around the castle.

She usually exercised them by walking on the grounds of Windsor Castle, where she lives with a small, tight-knit number of staffers during the coronavirus pandemic. She was also seen taking the dogs for strolls around Frogmore House in Windsor Castle just days after the death of her husband, Prince Philip, who died at the age of 99.

The Queen has owned various corgis and dorgis all her adult life (more than 30 dogs), but was down to her last one Candy, following the death of Vulcan, another dorgi, late last year.

It was believed that the Queen didn’t want to have any more dogs – in part because she’s at risk of tripping over one of them, and also because of her desire not to leave any young dogs behind.

Anyway, forget the risk of the monarch tripping over her pets, she’s got a brand-new puppy, aren’t you wondering what she’s going to name it?
