British royal family news shows that British popular culture collided with the monarchy today and no one could have been more delighted at the outcome when Queen Elizabeth visited the set of Coronation Street almost four decades after her last visit. Both times she chatted with ITV show stalwart Bill Roache.
The show’s theme sing was played as she walked down a red carpet and the actors cheered and waved Union flags from the sidelines. Producer Iain MacLeod escorted the queen who told the stars, “There’s quite a lot of work to do. And you do it every day!”

She took a 40 minute tour of the set and studios at Media City UK in Manchester and looked fabulous in a blue Angela Kelly outfit and matching hat. While there the queen greeted a plethora of cast and crew and even walked on the famed cobbled street before entering the studio where the Rovers Return is filmed.
Bill Roache plays Ken Barlow, and in addition to him the queen talked to Barbara Knox, (Rita) and Helen Worth, (Gail) all of whom were present during her first visit in 1982.
