British royal family news divulges that Sophie Wessex has stepped up in the wake of Meghan and Harry’s controversial exit from the family, becoming more visible despite a past scandal of her own.

In 2001 she was forced to step down as chairman of her public relations firm after a recording of her criticizing senior politicians was leaked.

Sophie and Prince Edward had been married for just two years and she issued a contrite apology after being accused of using her royal connection to influence a PR account for a Saudi prince.

Of that an insider said, “She’s never shied away from what was an obviously embarrassing episode at the time, but every day since she became a working member of the family she has worked tirelessly for each and every cause she is passionately involved in.”

Royal Family News – Sophie Wessex Is Taking Over The Guide Dogs Patronage

Apparently all has been forgiven as Sophie has just been given the Guide Dogs patronage. She helped to open the new Guide Dogs South West regional center in Bristol this week and met with those who are supported by the charity. At the same time she was introduced to some of the adorable dogs and watched training demonstrations.

Guide Dogs Chairman Jamie Hambro said, “We are incredibly honored to mark, and to thank in person, Princess Alexandra for her wonderful contribution over the last sixty-seven years, first as our President, then since 1957 as our Patron.”

“We hope she feels proud of the organization that has flourished under her Patronage. From our first four guide dog owners back in 1931, we are now helping thousands of people with sight loss, of all ages, to enjoy freedom and independence.”

Sophie takes over the position from Princess Alexandra. The chairman went on to say, “We’re looking forward to working with our new Patron to continue to highlight our work which enables people living with sight loss to live the lives they choose.”

Sophie Now Has Nearly 100 Patronages

Sophie is now the patron of over 70 organizations. Throughout her tenure she has shown that she is equally comfortable speaking at schools, the United Nations, with British nurses and a whole plethora of other settings.

Palace aides have praised her work ethic and seem to admire how she has bounced back from her early misstep. Does this mean there is room after all for the runaway royals Harry and Meghan?
