Bill struggles to find a balance between his work and personal life. Diamont explained that things didn’t go well when Bill “tried to apply business ethics to his personal life.” It has either resulted in “complicated” or “damaged” familiar relationships.

His relationship with Katie is one of the best examples. He’s gone through a lot with his on-again/off-again wife, but despite their struggles, Bill considers Katie as “the single best thing that has ever happened to him.”

“Unfortunately, he has a self-destructive personality and is always getting in his own way. He will tear down the best things that happen to him because, ultimately, he doesn’t consider himself worthy,” Diamont explained. This means he could jeopardize his relationship with Katie.

But Diamont made it clear that his character has no intention of giving up on Katie. If he does, it’ll “be like giving up on himself.”
