General Hospital spoilers reveal that Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) is still keeping Sonny Corinthos aka “Mike” (Maurice Benard) in the dark. Despite plenty of close calls and feeling tremendous guilt, why hasn’t she told “Mike” the truth yet? The co-head writers explained that Nina “denies totality of Sonny’s existence.”

GH spoilers reveal that when Nina first came face to face with “Mike,” she initially intended to do the right thing. She called Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) to tell her that Sonny was alive. However, Carly wouldn’t let Nina get a word in and kept ranting and giving warnings regarding Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos (Theo and Erik Olson). After a few minutes, Nina gave up and hung up. She decided to use Sonny’s amnesia to get revenge on Carly.

However, as time went on, Nina and “Mike” became friends and have a romantic interest in one another. Now that there is a relationship between the two and Nina has developed feelings, it’s no longer about revenge. It’s turned into something else but despite caring for “Mike,” he still hasn’t been told the truth about his identity or family.

GH Spoilers – Guilt And Close Calls

Nina has gone through a few close calls but managed to keep Sonny a secret. She’s always had guilt, but used to be able to justify the scheme to herself. As Nina falls even harder for “Mike,” that guilt is multiplying. Plus, Nina realizes just how strong Sonny’s love for his family is. He had a memory of losing a loved one and shared it with Nina. It packs on extra guilt for her but she still hasn’t confessed the truth.

General Hospital spoilers reveal that the co-head writers opened up about Nina’s state of mind to Soap Opera Digest. They suggested that “Mike” and Sonny are one person — despite having different personalities and memories. However, Nina is determined to keep them separate, as if they really are two different people. She can’t bring herself to look at “Mike” and admit that he’s really Sonny.

“I think Nina is incredibly torn. What started out as an act of revenge has turned into something else. She has genuinely fallen for this man she has come to know as ‘Mike,’ but it’s sort of an impossible situation. In order to further pursue the fondness she feels for this new version of Sonny, it denies him the truth and the totality of his existence.”

It sounds like Nina is trying to deny to herself that “Mike” is Sonny, as if that makes their relationship okay. At the same time, she seems to also be disassociating the two personas. She decided to stay in Nixon Falls for a fresh start. She liked nobody knowing her past or all the bad things she has done. She also likes “Mike” and their developing relationship.

However, to keep up living her new life, she needs him to be “Mike” and not Sonny. The minute she reveals the truth, “Mike” will have his real identity, which includes a wife, children, business, friends and everything in between. It will force her to not only recognize him as Sonny, but to admit that she’s taking someone else’s husband and keeping him from the children that need him.

In a sense, what Nina is doing right now is holding Sonny hostage by withholding his identity and family from him. How will he feel when his memories finally return and he realizes that Nina kept him from his family? We will just have to keep watching the ABC soap to find out.
