“NCIS Hawai’i” first female lead actor in the show’s history, Vanessa Lachey, has uploaded a raw video of herself “ugly crying” the moment she received a call that she got the job as Special Agent In Charge Jane Tennant.
The actress uploaded the video on her Instagram account a week before the first episode of the franchise aired. Vanessa is in her car with her child, Phoenix, and documented the emotional moment after she received the news while she was on her way to her best friend’s house.
“I just found out I got the job… and I’m so happy… I don’t know what to do,” Vanessa said while crying. She got out of the car to announce what happened and she was welcomed with hugs and shouts from her bestfriend’s family while sobbing.
Vanessa wrote in her caption: “I remember the day I got the call ‘You got the job!’ I will never forget it! Dreams do come true. One week from today, our show premieres and I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity. My life is changed forever.”
Her fans and other celebrities celebrated with her, including CBS’s official account which commented: “Crying tears of joy with you!!” and NCIS Hawaii CBS account which said: “We are so lucky! Aloha, Jane.”
Supportive stars also flooded her with praise, including Cheyenne Jackson of Glee, who said: “I love this. true raw pure emotion. So happy for you. I know how hard you’ve worked.”
“Love is Blind” candidate, Kenny Barnes, also showed his support: “Congratulations! You and Nick were always so gracious and professional with us. Keep taking care of yourself and your family.”
A Culmination Of Hard Work, The COVID-19 Pandemic, And Self-Questioning
Following “NCIS Hawai’i” success on its pilot episode last September 20, 2021, the actress has graced CBS’s “This Morning” to talk about her role as Jane Tenant with the hosts, Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, and the latest addition, Nate Burleson.
When the morning show aired her emotional video, Gayle King asked her to share about the story behind her “ugly crying” which she believed was more than just getting the role.

Vanessa, who admitted she feels honored to be the first female lead in the show, revealed that her emotional video was a culmination of hard work, the pandemic, and the challenges she faced as a mother and a wife.
The actress pointed out that there’s no overnight success in the entertainment industry and people must work on different avenues which she herself has done a lot, including hosting, filming behind the scenes, and in front of the camera. On top of the pressure, the global pandemic has caused her to reflect on who she is and what she really wants to do.
“I got this call. It was right after I got the call from CBS that the show I did for them was not gonna go,” she recalled. “So talk about one door closing and another one open. It’s two weeks later this happened, and I was just [emotional] with my son in the car and I was like ‘I could do it!’” she narrated.
“NCIS Hawaii” airs on CBS, US at 10:00 PM on Mondays.
