Grey’s Anatomy: Ellen Pompeo Reveals Incident With Denzel Washington

“Grey’s Anatomy” lead star and show producer Ellen Pompeo shared her encounter with the director Denzel Washington on one of her episodes of the “Tell Me With Ellen Pompeo” podcast.

The star shared her fight with Washington on set to her podcast guest, Patrick Dempsey, on her latest edition on September 29.

Ellen narrated how it started when the Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington was brought as a director of the show for Season 12 in 2016 and she instructed a co-actor on what to do in a scene.

“I was like, ‘Look at me when you apologize. Look at me,’” Pompeo recalled the yelling she had with her co-actor and it’s not even included in their dialogue.

Washington reacted to Ellen’s behavior and reminded her he’s the director and she has no right to tell a co-actor what to do in a scene.

“I was like, ‘Listen, motherf*cker, this is my show. This is my set. Who are you telling?’” Pompeo continued.

It also happened that Denzel’s wife, Pauletta Washington, visited the set and Ellen told her about the exchange and she told Pauletta that she’s not okay with Denzel and that she didn’t want to look and talk to him.

Grey’s Anatomy – Ellen Pompeo Extremely Bashed On Social Media after “Motherf*cker” Issue With Denzel Washington

However, fans believed Ellen over shared and experienced a backlash on social media. A massive number of people expressed their thoughts on Twitter and branded Pompeo as rude and entitled.

“Denzel Washington is one of the most beloved actors in America. Did Ellen Pompeo really think over sharing a story where she got way out of line and called him a motherf*cker for no reason was going to go well for her? On what planet?” a fan tweeted.

Another one taking Washington’s side, “Watching Ellen Pompeo on old reruns of Law and Order will show you she is not near as good as she thinks she is. Just a little reminder that she has never and will never hold a candle to a legend that is Denzel Washington.”

One fan posted a video showing a confused reaction from TikTok and captioned it with, “Ellen Pompeo really disrespected Denzel Washington and proudly told the world like we were gonna be on her side…”

Pompeo clarified on her podcast that she has the utmost respect for Washington “as an actor and director” and they were fine after that incident. Despite what happened, she calls it an amazing experience.
