NCIS: New Orleans: Shalita Grant Reveals Reason Behind Her Exit

The former star of “NCIS: New Orleans”, Shalita Grant, has revealed the reasons behind her exit from the show last 2018. She opened up about the physical damage she had on her hair that led her to wear different wigs during the shoot starting from the second season of the show.

Before her character joined the FBI, Shalita played Sonja Percy in the whole four seasons. Within her appearance on the show, the actress was seen wearing different wigs, and recently, she revealed the story behind it and how it has contributed to her exit.

During her appearance on the “Tamron Hall Show”, the actress revealed she was documenting the physical damage she experienced during her stay at “NCIS: New Orleans.”

She mentioned that her character constantly changed wigs every week or within the episode for her to hide the damage she was experiencing in her natural hair. Shalita shared she started documenting in January 2017, and in just six months, she already noticed a bald spot on her head.

“In front of my hair I was threatening baldness, so when I came back for season four and everybody on Twitter let me know, ‘That looks like a helmet’… by that point, I didn’t care anymore because I was protecting myself,” Grant stated.

Aside from her hair issue, Shalita Grant revealed she felt being treated differently than her white colleagues on the show and realized that she has to do the hairstyling on her own. She usually came to work with her hair done.

The 33-year-old actress shared a moment in the show where it was raining and everybody doesn’t want to cross the street to protect themselves from being wet but the story got twisted and ended up with Shalita being “hard to work with”.

“Well, that story got turned into ‘Shalita couldn’t walk across the street in the rain’ and that kind of story becomes ‘She’s hard to work with’. But the truth is, I wasn’t being worked with… so I have to save myself,” she stated.

After all her hair trauma, Shalita Grant will launch her natural hair care line called Four Naturals. In one of her Instagram posts, she shared a story of Kelli who achieved beautiful curly hair after using the products. She captioned her post with “My November 2021 Intention: Change the lives of people with Type 4 hair.”
