When Calls The Heart Director Hints Big Changes To Come In Season 9

When Calls the Heart spoilers and updates tease that big changes will come to Hope Valley this coming season 9. The show’s director, Siobhan Devine, dropped the hint during an interview with Cheat Sheet recently.

Devine directed two episodes in When Calls the Heart Season 8. She’s also set to work behind the scenes for the upcoming ninth season. Devine didn’t was careful not to give out any spoilers but she did reveal that there will be significant changes to Hope Valley when it returns in 2022.

She said “there’s lots and lots of stuff going on” in season 9. One major thing that viewers will notice is the effects of industrialization on the small community of Hope Valley.

“I think one of the things that are really interesting about this coming season is really the advent of industrialization,” Devine said.

“That’s really interesting because that really would have happened in 1919 … I was really excited about that, about the fact that the world was sort of coming into Hope Valley through industrialization and how are they going to cope with it,” she continued.

When Calls The Heart News – Wyman Walden Returns In Season 9

Viewers may recall that a businessman named Wyman Walden (Wesley Salter) appeared on Hope Valley in season 8. He purchased properties where he could build factories on. Walden will be back in the new season, which hints at the start of industrialization.

For those who didn’t know, Devine spearheaded the two episodes where Ned Yost (Hrothgar Mathews) and Florence Blakeley’s (Loretta Walsh) had their bachelor/bachelorette parties and their wedding.

She believed that those two episodes, Pre-Wedding Jitters (episode 9) and Old Love, New Love, Is This True Love (episode 10), were excellent representations of what When Calls The Heart really is, “full of hope and love and energy.” The episodes had both drama and comedy. It contained fun light stuff and serious content, too.

When Calls The Heart – Devine’s Experience On WCTH

Devine has had a wonderful experience working with the cast and crew of When Calls the Heart. She said that the people she’s worked with are “just as nice in real life as they are on TV.”

But working with the show has its own set of challenges. One of which is working with a large cast and having many storylines to work on and keep track of. She said everyone’s story needs to be told and it’s crucial to avoid missing anything. She said it was the most challenging part of her experience with the show.
