Camilla Parker-Bowles sparked controversy when the now-Duchess of Cornwall began her relationship with Prince Charles. But despite their scandalous beginning, Camilla and Charles seemed fated to end up together. Now, as Queen Elizabeth’s frail health causes royal family watchers to look to the next generation, some wonder what role Camilla will take when Charles becomes King.
But rather than anticipate that role, rumors are swirling that the Duchess of Cornwall actually dreads that occasion! Find out why Camilla reportedly worries about Prince Charles taking the throne below.
Camilla Parker-Bowles, Prince Charles Romance Timeline
Soon after Prince Charles and Camilla first met in 1970, the two began dating, according to Town And Country. But Charles then left to serve in the Royal Navy. And by the time he returned, Camilla had become engaged to another man. She then tied the knot with Andrew Parker-Bowles in 1973.
In 1980, Prince Charles started dating Lady Diana Spencer. He proposes just a year later, and they enjoy a fairy-tale wedding ceremony viewed around the world. But in 1986, Charles reportedly began an affair with Camilla. That affair soon went public, and in 1992, Charles and Diana officially separated.
Amid the resulting scandalous rumors, Camilla and Andrew announced their divorce. Soon after, Charles and Diana finalized their own divorce. But just a year later, Diana died in a tragic car accident. Charles and his sons Prince William and Harry mourned, and Charles seemed to temporarily distance himself from Camilla.
But that distance didn’t last long. Gradually, Charles started to take his relationship with Camilla public. Both of his sons met Camilla, although the Queen initially did not want to socialize with her. It took months before the Queen finally approved. And in 2005, Charles and Camilla tied the knot in a civil ceremony. At that time, Camilla received the title of Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall.
Does Camilla Want To Become The Queen To Charles’ King?
As a result of surviving the scandal, some might assume Camilla would look forward to even further legitimacy by becoming the Queen when Charles becomes King. But a royal family expert quoted by Nicki Swift claims that’s not true. That expert, Penny Junor, believes titles don’t mean anything to Camilla.

And rather than look forward to the title of Queen, Camilla may fear “the prospect of being Queen or Princess Consort” because of the spotlight, explained Junor. “The fuss there will be at the time, the comparisons to Diana, it will be a very difficult time for her,” predicted the royal family expert. “She is a normal woman who, because of her relationship with Charles, has found herself in an abnormal situation.”
But Junor also believes that Charles will insist on a title change for his wife. “Charles … loves her so much that he would find it difficult to give her a lesser title,” declared Junor. “It would be demeaning.”

Everybody in this entire world has made many mistakes in their own personal lives and none of us can blame anyone else but themselves, Camilla paid dearly for her mistakes and for those of you that bad mouth her because of Diana just look in the mirror at your own mistakes. Diana was *not perfect* at all, she was just as human as everybody else, so let her rest in peace and move on. Camilla has *not* put a foot wrong since marrying Charles, in fact she brings the best out in Charles and has made him a very hard working devoted royal to the entire country and the people. Be very grateful England, very grateful you have someone with dignity and graciousness to represent your country.
I would be surprised if Charles can do anything exceptional or last long. It feels like history will repeat itself like wirh Victoria's son after her long reign. I hope Charles can make his turn count, it can't be easy following the longest serving UK monarch and serving a country that either loves the old queen, and/or wants a younger more relatable Williams as a replacement and then there are the ones who just don't care because they didn't move to the UK for its monarchy, it was the social security benifits and other free stuff like the NHS that they were after, no king or queen probably means more in the kitty for free stuff.
