British royal family news reveals that Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has been entrusted with many royal family heirlooms following her marriage to Prince William. Her husband will one day be king of England and when that happens she will become queen consort.
Here are five of the most magnificent treasures Kate has been given through the years.
Royal Family News – The Queen’s Highest Honor
In 2019 Kate Middleton was granted the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victoria Order (GCVO) by Queen Elizabeth. The awards are given only by the Queen and mark services to the sovereign. Since her marriage Kate has been a tireless worker on behalf of the monarchy and this award cements her status as one of the hardest working royals.
The Royal Victoria Order was first introduced by Queen Victoria in 1896. It is meant to recognize an individual’s services performed on behalf of the monarch. Kate was awarded the highest rank of the award with eh other categories being Knight or Dame Commander (KCVO or DCVO), Commander (CVO), Lieutenant (LVO) and Member (MVO).
Royal Family News – Princess Diana’s Engagement Ring
Kate and William were engaged in 2010. At that time William presented Kate Middleton with the treasured ring of his late mother, Princess Diana. The engagement ring band features a 12-carat blue sapphire surrounded by 14 diamonds. It is set in 18-carat white gold.
Royal Family News – Royal Family Order
In October 2018, Kate attended a state banquet with the Dutch royal family who were on a visit to the UK at that time. At that point in time Kate’s was given the Royal Family Order, a personal gift from the Queen. It is a brooch with the monarch’s likeness on it and is only given to a select few. On the brooch is an image of the Queen. It is made of glass, rather than the traditional ivory.
Royal Family News – The Ballon Bleu De Cartier Watch
In 2014 Kate Middleton was given the Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch for her third wedding anniversary. The stunning timepiece has a small blue sapphire which perfectly matches her engagement ring. The watch also has sentimental value as Prince William’s mother was famous for wearing a Cartier watch. For one of his birthdays she gave him a specially-engraved Cartier watch of his own.
