Blue Bloods just marked a major milestone, airing its 250th episode on March 11. And to celebrate, the CBS police drama’s cast, including Tom Selleck, decided to answer the most frequently asked fan questions. For instance, the actor playing NYPD commissioner Frank Reagan recalled what happened when the entire cast gathered for the first of the now famous Reagan family dinner scenes.
Find out what Tom and his Blue Bloods co-stars shared about the show. And see why Selleck feels so responsible for Blue Bloods success. Learn more about Blue Bloods’ past, present, and future below.
Tom Selleck – Reflects On Blue Bloods 250th Episode
On Friday night, Blue Bloods aired its 250th episode. But to star Tom Selleck, it feels like just yesterday when they filmed their first scene, confessed the actor portraying Frank Reagan to CBS News. “It’s a big deal,” admitted Tom. “It’s still kind of sinking in because it seems like yesterday we were doing the first one.”
And as a close friend of his co-star Donnie Wahlberg, Selleck shared that he had confided in his pal. “I was talking to [co-star] Donnie [Wahlberg] about it today,” noted Tom. “And it’s just gone so fast. I think ’cause we like our jobs and we like our show.”

And part of that fondness stems from those family dinner scenes requiring all the characters in the Reagan family. “We have this actors’ family, and it’s a great big family,” explained Tom. “And we all kind of love each other. Don’t tell them,” he joked. “But we do.”
Blue Bloods – Role Requires Tom Selleck To Show No Weakness
Fans often ask about the beginning of filming Blue Bloods. Did the cast know that the police drama would turn into a long-running hit for CBS? Tom Selleck confessed that they all felt scared on that first day as they filmed the first family dinner scene.
“I was scared,” he recalled. “And they all looked like they weren’t scared, and then they’ve all confessed that they were scared and I didn’t look like I was scared,” he admitted. But Tom never allows his character to show fear. NYPD commissioner Frank Reagan bears “the weight of the world on his shoulders,” pointed out Selleck.
“A person in command can’t show weakness, can’t show worry, can’t show anxiety because he’s gotta inspire the troops,” added the Blue Bloods actor. And so Tom seeks to balance displaying that courage to the audience while withholding his “private moment” from other characters. “We try very hard to have worthy adversaries and not just tell one point of view.”

But we do know that Danny Reagan trusts Det. Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). Will Danny ever admit his love for Baez? “Danny and Maria are in such a great place,” pointed out Marisa. “Sometimes taking things to another level only complicates things.”
