At the “General Hospital” Convention Event held in Burbank last month, Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos, shared his thoughts on Carly Corinthos’ (Laura Wright) later in life pregnancy storyline.
The portrayer of the mob boss in the soap said that when he’s asked if his character wants to have another child, his initial response was a big no. Benard said, “When I do appearances, fans ask me, ‘Do you want [Sonny] to have another child?’” “Sonny doesn’t need any more kids!” was his initial response.
Benard admitted that he had his own reservations about the story early on, before viewers learned about the spina bifida diagnosis. His concerns didn’t have anything to do about where the plot was headed but because his alter ego already has a lot of children. But the story eventually grew on him thanks to Wright’s impeccable performance. Benard shared, “I gotta be honest. She’ll do anything. That’s why she’s great. This story has really grown on me. I’m starting to like this little baby.”
Cameron has some very exciting news… but Elizabeth and Franco are hesitant to go along for the ride.

Viewers may recall that Carly and Sonny learned the devastating news that their child appears to have spina bifida. To make matters more concerning, the parents-to-be and the doctor won’t’ have any idea as to how severe the condition is until Carly’s closer to giving birth.
Upon hearing the news, Carly feared for her unborn child after the doctor warned that the baby could suffer physical limitations and developmental or cognitive problems. However, the doctor also said there’s a possibility that their child could live a normal life. It’s still a long way before she comes to term and a lot of things can happen during the period. Viewers have to tune in to watch the story unfold.
The spina bifida storyline is hitting home for all those who are affected by the same condition. When the story first aired, some of them were quick to share what they think about it on social media. One fan reached out to Wright and Benard on Twitter to offer her support and to say thanks for tackling a health issue that’s happening in real life. Wright also expressed her gratitude for the support and the message she received.

It’s unexpected and hopefully she will have a healthy child. Nobody does a storyline that’s complicated and truthful like Gh. So, I am hoping the spina bifida story is realistic and well done. You couldn’t get two better actors to work on this storyline. Laura Wright and Maurice Bernard know how to tell a story with respect, dignity and truthfulness to all those who have suffered with this health issue. Kudos to GH for tackling such a difficult story.
I believe a handicapped storyline will be educational for all viewers as long as it’s realistic. I have a handicapped grandson he is 10 years old now and the medical problems you see these kids go through is something because they are alot stronger than people think.
Cant think of two better actors to handle such a sensitive storyline….Maurice Bernard and Laura Wright nailed their preformances regarding Mike and his Alzheimers diagnosis….some of the best acting ive ever seen….Hopefully the writers will take them down the same path
Their old a$$es shouldn’t be having a baby. That’s GH way of trying to revive an unsexy old burnt out couple. That should have been a story line for a younger couple.
