According to the official synopsis, after a strange storm rips through upstate New York, farmer Sarah (DeVitto) finds a disoriented, but a polite man named Rip (Matter). He is strangely wearing 18th-century clothing and seems baffled by modern technology. After he tells Sarah that he was born in 1758, she attempts to help Rip. Meanwhile, local deputy, Ted (Casey Manderson) soon discovers that Rip is a mystery. In fact, he can find no record of the man anywhere.

Sensing Rip is a gentle and kind man, she lets him stay on as a farmhand on her struggling farm while he recovers his faculties. Meanwhile, Sarah’s father and son quickly warm up to him and the only one who disapproves is Ted, who believes Rip is trouble.

However, with Rip’s help, the farm rebounds, while he and Sarah grow closer. Hoping to help Rip recover his memories, Sarah takes him to New York City, where doctors are unable to disprove his story.

Finally, a quantum physicist comes along and admits that Rip’s tale is theoretically possible. In fact, he might even be able to send him back to his own time. However, Rip is now torn between a desire to return home and his newfound feelings for Sarah. Could this out-of-time couple find a path to happiness in this modern world?

Torrey DeVitto plays the role of Sarah Majors and has had an impressive career. She is known for her roles in Scrubs, The Rite, Beautiful People, The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill and Pretty Little Liars. Meanwhile, Niall Matter (Aurora Teagarden Mysteries) plays the role of Rip Van Winkle Jr.

The role of the local deputy, Ted is played by Casey Manderson (Nutshells). Other cast members include Eric Keenleyside as Calvin Majors and Joshua Black as Henry Majors.
