We all know when Kanye West went hard for Donald Trump during the 2020 Presidential Election? The rapper went so hard for the election that it reportedly put tensions between him and ex Kim Kardashian and contributed to their separation and subsequent divorce.

Now we’re learning it didn’t only affect his marriage.

John Legend – Opens Up About What Strained His Relationship With Fellow Singer Kanye West

If you know John Legend, you’ll know that he’s an easygoing guy. From his soulful songs to being a part of “The Voice”, everything about Legend cries inspiration. So what could go wrong between him and rapper Kanye West, or more precisely, Ye – that is, besides his intense persona?

During a CNN interview, the “All Of Me” singer admitted that his friendship with Kanye West hit the skids because of their political differences.

Legend was asked about his relationship with Kanye West by CNN’s “the Axe Files” host David Axelrod, who said (via the Daily Mail), “Let me ask you about your relationship with him. Because I know you’re friends still, but he’s, you know, his behavior and his politics, I guess — his politics are much different or have been much different than yours?”

In response, John explained that “we aren’t friends as much as we used to be because, I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office, his supporting Trump. I think it became, uh, too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly.”

Continuing on, John mentioned that Kanye was particularly pissed he didn’t support his 2020 Presidential bid, even though he wasn’t “the only one” who didn’t do so “for understandable reasons”. Since Kanye decided John couldn’t put in the effort to support his bid to become the president of the United States, he, Kanye, won’t be putting in the effort to remain friends with John Legend. Case closed.

John was also asked what most people don’t understand about Kanye West, which he thinks isn’t really much as he’s the same person in private as he is in public.

“Well, I think people get a lot about him,” John explained. “He’s been very open with who he is and his struggles with mental health and he’s very real, honestly. So I think there’s not a lot about him that people don’t get, like he’s been pretty upfront with his opinions, his struggles, all the things that he’s dealing with. And, uh, I think what you see with him is pretty much what you get. I don’t feel like he’s a whole separate person in private than he is in public. I think you’re pretty much seeing the real Kanye publicly.”

Kanye hasn’t publicly responded to John Legend’s comments.
