Meghan Markle made some unfortunate statements about Africa in the first episode of her new podcast, Archetypes. Although it ranked at number three in India and topped the international Spotify chart in the UK, USA, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, Africans are raging: hence the #voetsekMehgan hashtag trending in South Africa.
Meghan Markle – Hashtag #VoetsekMeghan Trends
Attempting to reveal her authentic self to the world didn’t do Prince Harry’s wife any favors in Africa. When two famous people of color hook up, one would expect a lot of loving support from the African continent. Bear in mind, Serena Williams and the Duchess Of Sussex both identify as Black Americans. But, the former Suits actress managed to offend plenty of people when she talked about her trip to Africa.
Whilst Meghan Markle rapidly fell from favor in the USA, people from Africa loved her. After all, she shared ancestral roots. So, when the news emerged that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might honeymoon in Africa, people went wild with joy. However, her podcast, Archetypes merely stereotyped her as just another foreigner who couldn’t be bothered to educate herself on local culture. That explains the #VoetsekMeghan hashtag trend on Twitter.
Meghan Markle – What Does #VoetsekMeghan Mean?
Some folks tried to help share the hashtag, but they were ill-advised on the meaning of the local expression. Actually, it doesn’t mean the equivalent of #MeghanMarkleIsALiar. Actually, that’s way too tame an interpretation. Mind you, according to our sources, it is a more polite expression than telling a barking dog to F–k Off. And, locally, it’s really much more forceful than telling someone to go away.
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry visited Africa, there were minor local reports of a possible electrical issue with a heater. Well, it never made massive headlines at the time. But when she spoke about it in her Archetypes podcast, she rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way. Not so much that there might or might not have been a fire, but about her wording when she described the nanny assigned to her son Archie.
Describing the baby sling that they use to carry minors as a “mud cloth” freaked out locals. Actually, a lot of her phraseology annoyed people.

A lot of critics felt insulted by the former rep of the royal family.

- @sanah2_0 – “I don’t care abt the fire incident but the statement: coming to South Africa was the bravest thing she has done. Speaks volumes. As if she was coming to some apocalypse state or something. She should elaborate on wt was brave about it, is it because is in Africa?
- @LulamaAnderson – “Meghan Markle doesn’t care how she portrays South Africa, she must never step foot here ever again.
- @jewellshaven: –“Funny people us South Africans – we can call each other names, but the minute an outsider lies and runs us down, we stand together as a nation! #VoetsekMeghan
- @NgcwinaM: – “That fake princess with no royal blood who calls herself a dutchess of Sussex “said coming to SA was the bravest thing she ever did” really, really 🤔🤔 that commoner was probably more protected than the president. Neh uyasijwayela lo sisi #VoetsekMeghanMarkle #VoetsekMeghan.”
I was convinced by her acting on Oprah interview now after lying about South Africa i withdraw my sympathy and anger against the British media and Royal family. This woman is a special case Harry is in big trouble he needs our prayers #VoetsekMeghan
