Red Table Talk had Will Smith and his wife Jada on it several times in the past. But this time, he was joined by his three kids, Jaden, Willow, and Trey. During the gathering, Will said it was a “Table Takeover.” Mostly, they discussed the movie, “Emancipation,” which dropped in October this year. While the role of Peter wasn’t easy, for Will, one difficult day came when another actor spat in his face.
Red Table Talk – Will Smith Talks About Getting Lost
When he was filming for “Emancipation,” for only the “second time” in his career, Will said that he got so into character, that it felt real. He added that trauma, whether real or acting, isn’t “recognized” as acting by the brain.
In fact, it’s possible to have “nightmares.” If you don’t know the plot, it’s all about Gordon, a runaway slave known as “Whipped Peter.” Folks know about him because there’s an early surviving photo of his cruelly scarred back.
Red Table Talk seldom had such an enthralled gathering of young people. Actually, they all agreed that it must have been really hard for their dad to actually become Peter.
In fact, it was a lively debate about the character. Describing how real it felt to him when they were filming, Will Smith said that he felt “dehumanized” and “embarrassed.” Clearly, a few other actors also got into the real feel of the movie because one of them spat on him.
Red Table Talk – The Real Horror Of The Film
If you watched the movie, the flight from captivity is dramatic and probably as real as it can be enacted. Dogs hunting humans, folks on horseback chasing another human like a dog: it’s more than offensive.
In fact, a lot of people felt downright horrified. Running, hiding, and yet surviving, in the swamps was a dangerous and difficult time. Peter swore though, that nobody would ever break him.
Red Table Talk seems way too civil in comparison, and yet, one could almost see Will reliving the times when he was acting as a defiant man who was desperate to get back to his family. Then, he talked about how some spat on him. He told the kids, “One of the first days on set, there is a scene with one of the actors and he leans down in my face and says, ‘You a cold one, ain’t you?’ and then he ad-libbed.”
Red Table Talk – Everyone Was Into The Atmosphere
While the kids at the Red Table Talk laughed, their dad elaborated, saying, “I was like, ‘Makeup?” But, it wasn’t. In fact, it was a gob of the real deal. He added, “I was like, Whoa, every actor on this set was taking it really, really seriously.”
