The first teaser to the upcoming Barbie movie may be hard to digest, or even understand, but it does pack a punch with the number of celebrities that appeared in it. We’re talking about Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, and more stars making an appearance in the 1 minute 15 second long trailer. Intrigued?
Margot Robbie And Ryan Gosling – On The Upcoming Barbie Movie
The Barbie teaser may have begun in a world like any other, but once we caught a quick glimpse of Barbie’s world, things started to go pink, pink and more pink. Issa Rae and four other girls rocked pink onesies, with Rae wearing a sash that reads “President”. Simu Liu and other men in pink were also shown mid-choreography.
At the beginning of the teaser, we see “little girls” playing with dolls. We are then made aware that before the first little girl existed, there’s always been dolls. However, these dolls were always of a specific type: they were baby dolls. The narrator then reveals that Barbie revolutionized children’s dolls by introducing a lady doll.
At this point, we see Margot Robbie as Barbie, with glistening skin, dwarfing over the playing children. After the children get a glimpse of Robbie’s Barbie, they seemingly grow unsatisfied of their baby dolls and start to break them or throw them away.
When we see Barbie’s world towards the very end, it’s clear that we’ve entered a world like no other.
Shortly after the news of the movie’s production was announced, Robbie, 32, confirmed to British Vogue that the movie will be thoroughly unpredictable.
“People generally hear Barbie and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,‘ ” she began at the time. “Then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t….’ “
Robbie, who we know does not shy away from playing complicated female characters, acknowledged that her Barbie character does come “with a lot of buggage.”
While the movie already has a lot of potential fanbase – I mean, it is Barbie we’re talking about – the “Birds of Prey” actress believes it also means there will be more criticism of it.
As for Gosling, he’s okay with breaking “the internet”, especially since “the internet has been trying to break [him] for many years.”
Gosling continued, “We’ve been having so much fun making this movie and it felt nice to see everyone else start having as much fun as we are. I can’t wait for the film to come out and for that to continue.”
Other stars in the movie include Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Michael Cera and narrator Helen Mirren.
