Former BBC correspondent Peter Hunt has gone on the record to say that King Charles and Prince William are going to pay a dear price – if not now, but in the future – for the way they handled negotiations when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were asking to leave the firm. The couple wanted to work as part-time royals but both Charles and William were not seeing it.

Hunt wrote on Twitter, “The terms of Harry and Meghan’s exit were cruel. The institution made a mistake and will pay a price over time. But the royals don’t see it –in part, because much of the media insist, incessantly, that the blame lies with the Sussexes and Charles and William are beyond reproach.”

In the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, the Duke of Sussex slammed his older brother in more ways than one. He went into full detail about how disappointed they felt knowing that Prince William’s office was feeding the British press negative stories about his wife.

Harry said that the royals did this in order to bury unfavorable stories about themselves. He also suggested that there were some people from his family that were jealous of all the attention Meghan was getting with her newfound popularity.

Harry was also disappointed that his name was used in a joint statement denying claims that William had bullied him and Meghan out of the royal family. “No one had asked me permission to put my name to a statement like that,” Harry recalled. “I couldn’t believe it. They were happy to lie to protect my brother and yet for three years they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”
