British Royal News says that it doesn’t look like the pettiness here is going to end anytime soon. It appears as though Prince William and Kate Middleton have taken to heart all of the things that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have said about them in their docuseries Harry and Meghan and in the Duke of Sussex’s book, Spare.

In fact, there’s some speculation that suggests the Princess of Wales might be trying to retaliate against Meghan by getting under her skin for this reason, too. Here’s what you need to know.

The Duchess of Sussex told the world that when she first met her future sister-in-law Kate Middleton, their exchange was rather awkward. Meghan admitted that she was a little surprised by how formal William and Kate were during what was supposed to be a low-key dinner between them and Harry and Meghan.

In her Netflix docuseries, she said, “I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside.”

With that said, it seems like Kate Middleton is truly trying to show the world that she is indeed a hugger. In fact, the Princess of Wales went out of her way to hug her former history teacher during what looked like an emotional exchange during her royal engagement in Cornwall last week.

Some royal critics believe that Kate did this purposely – and in front of the cameras, no less – in order to hit back at Meghan’s supposed criticism of her. Well, it worked to a certain extent as Kate’s very warm embrace did get a lot of attention by the press. Clearly, she does hug, but she’s just very selective as to who she likes to hug.

If that weren’t enough, sources close to the Princess of Wales are now saying, “Kate’s a big hugger. She is warm and friendly and greets everyone with a big hug and kiss. It comes naturally to her to be like that.”
