Hallmark Announces This Year’s Christmas Special And When Calls The Heart Isn’t Included

When Calls the Heart spoilers, news, and updates tease that the series was not included in the 2023 Countdown to Christmas lineup by Hallmark Channel.

Hallmark is known for its family-friendly TV series and movies, and most of them are perfect for Christmas themes.

However, When Calls the Heart, one of the most popular series on the network was not included in the lineup. This news was confirmed by the executive producer Brian Bird.

When Calls The Heart Was Included In The Christmas Lineup In The Past

As we may recall, When Calls the Heart had holiday specials before. The 5 holiday specials of the show were aired between 2015 and 2019.

These episodes have durations the same as movies, which made a lot of fans happy because there were a lot of big events that happened to the characters in these specials.

For instance, in one holiday special, Elizabeth (played by Erin Krakow) gave birth to her son. The special also paved the way for the spinoff series When Hope Calls.

It’s been almost four years since the last holiday special that involved When Calls the Heart. And this year won’t be different either. A lot of hearties are saddened by the recent news since it’s been a while since the last holiday special.

According to Brian Bird, the decision not to include the series in this year’s Christmas lineup is both a business and creative decision.

He added that there are some creative challenges in producing holiday movies, especially with When Calls the Heart.

The movies in these specials should have standalone plots but are still connected to the main narrative of the drama.

Currently, there are ongoing strikes held by the unions SAG-AFTRA and WGA. Even though it is not disclosed that the strikes are the reason for this exclusion, it is evident that they have impacted the production of a lot of movies and series, particularly in the United States.

But When Calls the Heart is set in Canada, however, some talents and writers are still covered by the unions on strike even though the show is set outside the US.

The countdown currently has 18 movies so far, and some of the movies include A Bitmore Christmas, Christmas Goals, and Haul Out The Holly 2, among others.
