Soap Viewers Dissatisfied With The Young And The Restless and General Hospital’s “Boring, Atrocious” Storylines In Attempt To Get Through Strike
The Writers Guild went on strike on Tuesday, May 2, and is ongoing. The “Atrocious” General Hospital episodes written by the new writers, began on July 25.
Daytime soaps are still in production because soap actors are employed by the National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting.
Daytime Soap Fans Are – Becoming Fed Up
Daytime soap fans are fed up with the “Lazy” storylines on General Hospital and The Young And The Restless.
Thanks to the ongoing Writers Guild Of America (WGA) strike, temporary staff had to be hired because the show must go on.
Unfortunately, viewers of these much-loved soaps are not impressed in the least with these writers or the storylines.
Fans have not been shy on social media when it comes to their opinions of what they find as boring, atrocious storylines.
Fans have gone as far as to call the writing insulting to viewers. A perfect example of this is months of hearing that Austin Holt’s (Roger Howarth) and Mason Gatlin’s (Nathanyael Grey) boss was a woman, to now be told it is a man.
General Hospital – Temporary Writers Confirmed
General Hospital is now in its 60th season and it was confirmed in July that they would be employing temporary writers.
One of their writers, Shannon Peace, revealed that the last episode of the show written before the strike was still airing.
‘Starting next week, the show will be written exclusively by scab writers, which is heartbreaking,’ Peace shared.
Peace also shared, ‘My episode that aired Thursday, July 20 was my final until the strike is over.
Starting Tuesday, the writing team of GH will be watching alongside fans to see what happens… for the sake of the fans, I hope the show is in capable writing hands.”
However, Peace also acknowledged that it was heartbreaking to see others take over the writing for characters they have developed.
Fans Are More Upset With Certain Storylines Than Others
General Hospital fans are most upset about the Sasha Gilmore storyline and how this woman is still being tortured after everything she has been through.

Other fans have mentioned the repetitive writing on Y&R. Also Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) seems to be rewinding every time he speaks to Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and fans are very tired of the Newman/McCall merger.
Many actors joined the strike on July 14. As Deadline reported, Daytime Soap production will continue because the actors are employed under the National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting.
“The National Code covers soaps as well as morning news shows, talk shows, variety, reality, game shows, sports and promotional announcements.”
Fans are certainly ready for this strike to be over and for the shows to get back on track.
