Bachelorette Alum Josh Seiter Checks Into Wellness Facility
Josh Seiter, 36, has struggled to cope with an Instagram hack that resulted in fake death reports in August.
But in the wake of the backlash, the Bachelorette alum headed to a mental health facility. And Seiter made the announcement about his decision on social media, noted People.
The reality TV star shared that he planned to log off social media amid his time at a wellness center. But Seiter revealed he made that decision after weeks of “unending harassment.” And the Bachelorette alum described a month filled with getting “hundreds of hateful messages and unending harassment related to my account being hacked.”
However, Seiter admitted, “I wish I was stronger.” And he added, “But I can’t take any more and am logging off of social media for good.” The reality TV star shared his plans to check into a “wellness facility now to try to get some kind of handle on my mental health. I am losing my phone in the next hour. I love you all. To the people sending me death threats, you win.”

Josh Seiter Became Reality TV Star In 2015
The Bachelorette turned Seiter into a reality TV star, with Josh appearing as a potential suitor on season 11 of the show in 2015. But Seiter faced elimination amid his first week. And then Seiter made headlines again late in August, with a statement claiming to come from his family on his Instagram allegedly sharing his death.
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share the tragic news of Joshua’s unexpected passing,” the announcement stated. “As all who knew him can attest, Joshua was an incredibly bright light in an increasingly dim world. His fearless voice and indomitable spirit helped thousands of people in their darkest moments feel just a little less alone.”
And the statement went on to share “our heartache at Joshua’s passing pains us beyond measure.” But it added, “We find comfort knowing that he is finally at peace.” However, within 24 hours, Seiter had deleted the fake death announcement, sharing a video that revealed the hacking of his account.
Josh Seiter Advocates For Mental Health Discussions
And the Bachelorette alum called the hack “very unfortunate.” But he also urged that mental health discussions take place. And Seiter shared, “If you’re not open and honest, it precludes a connection to other people that are going through something similar.”
The reality TV star believes that staying silent will “lead inevitably to more suffering and more pain. I feel like when you’re open about something, it opens up connections to other people who might be going through the same thing.” And in July, Seiter described his own mental health struggles on social media.
“When I was 21 I was completely catatonic and committed to a psychiatric ward. When I was 22 I tried taking my own life. At 23, I underwent electroshock therapy,” he added. But Seiter praised the help that he received from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exercise as a “holistic approach to battling back against the depression and anxiety.”
