Elvis and Priscilla Presley were wed for six years before calling it quits in 1973, four years before his sudden death.
Why did Priscilla Presley, who was 32 at the time of Elvis’s death, refuse to remarry? Well, let’s just say that there simply wasn’t anyone else that could match his charisma, humor and kindness.
Priscilla Presley – Said She Made A Vow Not To Remarry Following Divorce From Elvis
In a Q&A event at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, Priscilla confirmed that she did make a vow never to remarry as long as Elvis was alive, even though they’d gone their separate ways.
“I just don’t think that he could handle that,” she said of the late rock music icon, to whom she was married from 1967 to 1973.
Four decades after his death in 1977, the actress is still keeping the vow. But it’s not just the vow that’s holding her from finding love again, there just isn’t anyone else out there for her. “To be honest with you, I never wanted to marry after him. I never had any desire,” she said. “No one could ever match him.”
Priscilla also revealed the reason she and Elvis didn’t have more children after Lisa Marie, saying, “Elvis felt he had a very busy schedule and he did have a bit of guilt that he wasn’t around that much when Lisa was younger. With his scheduling and his touring, he just felt he wasn’t around enough to give a lot of attention to having another child.”
Priscilla Presley – Reveals All the Things She Loves About Elvis’s Personality
Priscilla first met Elvis at a party in West Germany in 1959 when she was 14 and he was 24. The first thing that drew her to him was his sharp humor.
“He would walk into the room and it was like, ‘Whoa,’ ” she explained of his captivating presence. “I mean, he didn’t realize what he had as far as his appearance or what he felt or his charisma, but there was a few times when he came around and he said, ‘Damn, I’m good looking,’ kiddingly, when he would be in his bathroom and he would be getting ready to go somewhere, but he had a great sense of humor.”
Apart from his humor, his generous heart also made her enamored with him, as she remembered a time he bought a blue Cadillac for a woman he just met at a car dealership in Memphis.
“That’s him, that’s what he would do,” Priscilla said. “Anyone in trouble, he would give them money. Anyone who had a problem, with anything really and they couldn’t afford it, even with some of the guys who needed medical care, he would pay for it.”
