The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) and The Young and the Restless (Y&R) are the latest soaps to halt production. They join General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, who have already suspended filming due to coronavirus. Find out the latest details on how long each soap is expected to shut down for and how this could affect on-air delivery.
The Bold and The Beautiful Stops Filming
According to Deadline, B&B has halted production beginning today: Tuesday, March 17, 2020. The soap plans to remain dark for two weeks, but that could be extended depending on if the coronavirus situation improves or worsens.
The CBS soap currently has approximately 4-6 weeks of episodes, so at the moment, viewers won’t be affected by on-air delivery.
The Young and the Restless Halts Production
B&B sister soap, Y&R has also stopped filming. It will go dark starting today and like B&B, it plans not to resume production for two weeks. Fans should still be able to watch the soap because 4-6 weeks of episodes have already been shot.
General Hospital Goes Dark Due To Coronavirus
As previously reported, GH halted production on March 16. Right now, they don’t plan on continuing until April 10. Due to the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic, the filming suspension could go on longer than that.
Fans will be able to continue watching the ABC soap because enough episodes have been filmed to cover the shutdown period.

Days of Our Lives The Least Affected
Last week, Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans announced on Instagram that they were not working on DOOL for the week of March 16. At the time, they didn’t know when production would resume.
Yesterday, head writer Ron Carlivati posted on Twitter that the production halt is extended to March 29. However, unlike the other soaps, DOOL has an accelerated production schedule. Episodes are shot 6-8 months in advance, so viewers are going to be the least affected.
Pandemic Shuts Down All 4 Soaps
Now all four soaps have stopped filming, joining the long list of daytime and TV shows that have done the same. Start dates have been delayed for many premieres and even reality TV has gone dark. However, the length of time for the shutdowns vary and those dates might change.
While some fans are upset over their programming interruptions and delays, the health and safety of human lives is paramount. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
