When Calls The Heart (WCTH) star Mamie Laverock suffered a terrible accident in late May when she fell five stories from a hospital balcony. Her mom recently offered an update.
While a spokesperson for the family confirmed Laverock was out from surgery, her mom, Nicole, tells the Los Angeles Times that Mamie opened her eyes for the first time since the incident, recently. She states, “Let’s just hope this is the turnaround and she’s going to get through this now. I couldn’t be happier that people reached out and cared. The story will be told.”
“When Calls The Heart”: Mamie Laverock’s Mother Provides Update
While Nicole didn’t go into detail about her daughter’s injuries, she did say Mamie was in “tremendous pain” and her body was shattered from the accident.
She also states that her daughter, aged 19, was aware and could squeeze her mom’s hand, but that she needed to be sedated to stay alive and to recover from her surgeries.
Nicole goes on to say that Mamie’s fall was not intentional, laying the blame on the hospital where her daughter fell, which happens to be St. Paul’s in Vancouver.
It is alleged that Laverock was being escorted around the facility when the incident occurred. As such, the family is thinking about launching legal action.
Nicole states, “This is an absolute miracle and there will be accountability,” going to say that Laverock’s fall was not “intended” or a suicide attempt. She adds, “All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery and that she’s alive and that she’s fighting and that she’s strong. It’s unbelievable that she’s with us.”
“When Calls The Heart” – The Hospital Responds
A Providence Health Care spokesperson told PEOPLE that it cannot comment on patient cases due to their privacy policy; however, they did say, “In cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety.”
The spokesperson added, “Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and offer our best wishes for a full recovery.”
“When Calls The Heart” – What Happened To Mamie Laverock?
Laverock was transported to a Winnipeg hospital on May 11 due to a “medical emergency” as per a GoFundMe campaign, created by her family. She was then transferred to the Vancouver hospital and was, “escorted out of a secure unit of the hospital and taken up to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories,” on May 28, according to an updated post. Nicole and her hubby note within the campaign that Mamie, “Sustained life-threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support. We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time.”
Shortly after this, a Hallmark Media representative told PEOPLE, “We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Mamie. As a beloved member of our When Calls the Heart community, we wish her and her family peace, comfort, and many prayers during this difficult time.”
WCTH star, Erin Krakow (Elizabeth Thatcher) was one of the first to offer her support to Laverock by placing the spotlight on the GoFundMe campaign on her Instagram Stories on June 3.
Laverock played Rosaleen Sullivan, a nursing student, for Season 1 and Season 2 on the show, reprising her role in 2023 for Season 10.
