While it appears that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a picture-perfect romance from the start, things aren’t always as they seem. In his biography, “Spare”, Harry opened up about some of the more challenging times the couple has shared over the years, as well as a fight they had early on in their relationship.
Prince Harry “Snapped” At Meghan Markle Mere Months Into Dating
Harry and Meghan were introduced in July 2016. In “Spare”, the prince talks about a date the two had in December of that year. They drank wine, roasted a chicken, and listened to Nina Simone and James Taylor. While the night was off to a good start, the prince seemingly “snapped” at Meghan for no reason.
Harry explains in “Spare”, (via Express) that, “Maybe the wine went to my head. Maybe the weeks of battling the press had worn me down. For some reason, when the conversation took an unexpected turn, I became touchy. Then angry. Disproportionately, sloppily angry.”
The situation caused a communication breakdown between the two. Harry goes on to say, “Meg said something I took the wrong way. It was partly a cultural difference, partly a language barrier, but I was also just over-sensitive that night. I thought: Why’s she having a go at me? I snapped at her, spoke to her harshly, cruelly.”
It Didn’t Take Prince Harry Long To Realize He Was In The Wrong
Meghan left the room for 15 minutes and didn’t return when the prince realized his bad behavior.
When he approached her, she was sitting on the bed when she told him, “[I] would never stand for being spoken to like that.” She then tried to figure out where his anger came from, and why he reacted the way he did. She asked, “Where did you ever hear a man speak like that to a woman?” Did you overhear adults speak that way when you were growing up?”
Harry notes that he looked away and acknowledged he had. She went on to tell him she wouldn’t tolerate this behavior in a partner or co-parent; she didn’t want to raise a child in that environment.
Harry goes on to say he went to therapy after their fight, looking to work on the anger he felt, which came somewhere “deep” inside.
Looks like the move to work on himself helped, as everyone knows that the two ended up getting married, welcoming two children into the world, and now live a life separate from Harry’s Royal Family, in California.
