Algerian Gold Medalist Olympic Boxer Imane Khelif Names JK Rowling And Elon Musk In Criminal Lawsuit

If you’ve been on X in the past few days, you can’t have failed to see the barrage of criticisms that Boxer Imane Khelif faced after knocking a fellow boxer clean out a few seconds into a match.

Influencers and public figures like Jake Paul and Elon Musk took to their social media pages to share their thoughts on men competing in female sports. Perhaps it’s the wording or a lack of proper understanding, but the popular misconception soon became that Imane Khelif is a transgender woman.

Imane Khelif Files For Investigation Into The “Counts of Cyber Harassment Due to Gender”

Abuse on the gymnast naturally followed, and after collecting her gold, Imane has decided to sue for the online harassment and a number of controversial public figures were named in her lawsuit.

The internet has had its fun, and now Imane Khelif wants justice for all the harassment she faced online because of her gender and race.

The boxer filed the criminal complaint to French authorities over alleged “acts of aggravated cyber harassment” against her.

Her Paris-based attorney, Nabil Boudi, revealed that investigation has been launched after the office received the complaint filed by Khelif.

“On Aug. 13, (The National Center for the Fight Against Online Hatred) contacted the OCLCH (Central Office for the Fight Against Crimes Against Humanity and Hate Crimes) to conduct an investigation into the counts of cyber harassment due to gender, public insult because of gender, public incitement to discrimination and public insult because of origin.”

While the lawsuit was filed against X, famous figures were reportedly named in the filing.

“J. K. Rowling and Elon Musk are named in the lawsuit, among others,” he shared, adding that Donald Trump will also be subject to an investigation. “Trump tweeted, so whether or not he is named in our lawsuit, he will inevitably be looked into as part of the prosecution.”

On Saturday, Khelif emerged the winner in the women’s 66 kilogram boxing competition, but in the lead-up to her victorious night, she had been in the center of an unpleasant media storm.

Despite being born female and having never identified as transgender or intersex, she was dragged into an extremely unfriendly online debate over her gender eligibility.

This happened regardless of the fact that she was backed by the International Olympic Committee, who asserted “scientifically, this is not a man fighting a woman.”

Most of the abuse happened on X, where figures such as JK Rowling and Elon Musk shared their discontent that she was allowed to compete with females. Italian boxer Angela Carini accused her of being a man “enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head.”

Trump joined in on the internet foray by sharing a picture of Imane and writing, “I will keep men out of women’s sports!”
