‘Yellowstone’ may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean more stories won’t be developed from it. Already, the show has managed to successfully engineer successful spinoff shows, and star Kelly Reilly believes more stories can spring forth if creator Taylor Sheridan wills it.
Kelly Reilly Will Return For Any ‘ Taylor Sheridan Writes
The upcoming ‘Yellowstone’ season 5 part two was supposed to be the big goodbye to the Western drama, especially following the whole Kevin Costner drama.
However, recent reports have hinted that ‘Yellowstone’ – yes ‘Yellowstone’ and not a spinoff – is likely to continue past its fifth season. ‘Yellowstone’s’ Reilly seemed to confirm these rumors during his latest interview.
“There’s potentially another chapter,” Reilly told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s being talked about now.”
“Nothing is set in stone,” Reilly continued. “But if Taylor wants to write it, I would want to do it. That’s it. Because he’s the one that’s written every single line I’ve ever said. She came from his imagination. But we’re both in agreement that there’s a shift that has to take place. Because you can’t keep telling the same story. This story is ending. Yellowstone as we know it is ending, but if there is more story to tell with some of the characters, it’s going to be a little different.”
What Taylor Sheridan Has Said About Developing Spinoffs To ‘Yellowstone’
‘Yellowstone’s’ prequel series ‘1883’ may not have drawn the same wide audience the original show did – despite country star Tim McGraw’s involvement – but it doesn’t mean that the idea to build more worlds based around ‘Yellowstone’ has been abandoned.
In 2023, Sheridan put forward the idea of a Matthew McConaughey-led sequel titled, ‘2024.’
He told Hollywood Reporter at the time: “He seems like a natural fit. We had a few conversations over the years, and spitballed a few ideas. Then he started watching Yellowstone and responded to it. He was like, ‘I want to do that.’ And by ‘that’ he meant diving into a raw world clashing up against the modern world. And then I said, ‘Buddy, that we can do.'”
However, this idea didn’t seem to take off as well as Sheridan had hoped, leading ‘2024’ to undergo certain changes to become ‘The Madison.’ McConaughey was further passed over so that Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams and Matthew Fox can take over as leads.
