Prince Harry Has No Plans To Meet Father King Charles During Latest Trip To England

On Sept. 30, Prince Harry returned to the UK to attend the WellChild awards, but he didn’t stay long enough to drop in for a hot tea with pa King Charles. Prior to his visit, PEOPLE reported that the 40-year-old Duke has no plans to see his father.

Prince Harry traveled to England for the first time since his August visit to participate in this year’s WellChild Awards.

The charity, which Prince Harry has been a patron of for 16 years, seeks to support seriously ill children and their families. Every year, inspirational young people and their carers are recognized at the ceremony.

Apart from attending the funeral of his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes, Harry also returned to the UK in May to mark the 10th anniversary of his Invictus Games.

Even though Harry didn’t get to see his father and brother then, reports revealed that he extended an invitation to the two of them.

Sources also told PEOPLE that Harry has been attempting to reconnect with his brother Prince William prior to this visit – through texts and calls – but that they’ve all been ignored.

Speaking on the ongoing rift, expert Hugo Vickers said Harry’s multiple UK visits could eventually thaw the ice.

“If he [Harry] keeps coming, at least there is a chance at some stage he’ll meet up with his father, and you know, maybe this can be a step towards some sort of reconciliation…I think there’s quite a long way to go, but it’s nice that he feels he can come here anyway.”

Vickers continued, “If the king wishes to see him, he will arrange to see him. If he doesn’t wish to see him, he’ll be too busy. Simple as that.”

Speaking of being “too busy,” this was the excuse King Charles used to avoid seeing his son when he returned to the country in May. The last time the father-son duo sat down for a face-to-face meeting was probably in February, shortly after King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was made public.
