General Hospital Spoilers – It’s Carly Corinthos’ Fault For Everything

GH fans know that Nelle Benson seems to live life with a victim mentality. In fact, that’s Nelle’s inner identity. Nelle sees herself as a perpetual victim. Things always happen to Nelle. Nelle has no control over anything (even herself) and therefore, no responsibility is ever hers.

GH fans know that Nelle has identified with every crisis, trauma, and illness that she’s ever experienced. GH viewers also know that everything Nelle has ever gone through, everything she has ever done, is all because of the actions of someone else. Indeed, that someone else is Carly Corinthos.

Carly wasn’t there to protect or care for Nelle when Nelle was a child. Nelle lived in poverty as a child because her father, Frank Benson (James Patrick Stuart) was “forced” to move away from Carly’s adoptive mother, Virginia Benson (Cynthia Watros).

The bottom line is that Nelle’s life has been really, really hard. Nelle was poor and life sucked. And, everything can be traced back to Carly.

The twisted part of Nelle’s psychology is that while she hates Carly, she really wants to be Carly. Or, she at least wants Carly to own up to her role in making Nelle’s life hell. Or, Nelle wants Carly to act like a mother and rescue her. It doesn’t matter though, even if Carly gave in, felt sorry for Nelle and gave her everything she wanted, Nelle would probably still hold a grudge inwardly.

That’s because Nelle wouldn’t have made a difference in her own life for herself. Nelle would hate herself for that. Moreover, she would continue secretly to hate Carly because Carly took so long to save her.

No, Nelle needs a champion whom she has never fixated upon. Nelle needs a hero whom she doesn’t already have a mental love-hate relationship with.

It’s apparent to some GH viewers (though not all by any means) that Nelle really is a victim. Nelle grew up in a house where it’s pretty obvious she was neglected by her father. Her mother, whomever she was, was missing from Nelle’s life. Nelle had no one to lean on, to look up to, to comfort her when she was alone, sad, or scared.

That’s why Nelle may be ready for a healing touch. If it’s proven that Nina Reeves is Nelle’s mother, GH viewers might see Nina lavish Nelle with the type of love and attention Nelle has craved ever since she was a small child. GH fans may watch as Nelle is written into Nina’s will. No more poverty for Nelle … ever.

With the love of a mother, Nelle might begin to turn her life around. It’s not likely, but Nelle might. Carly might not like it, but with a new outlook on life, and with a fortune at her back, Nelle could become one of the most eligible bachelorettes in Port Charles!
