Law And Order Organized Crime Spoilers: Who’s Leaving?
A report from TV Line dated November 25 reveals that showrunner John Shiban departed from the series during the production of Season 5. He joined Law & Order: Organized Crime in October 2023. Shiban marks the sixth showrunner to exit the series.
While a successor has yet to be named, TV Line mentions that Matt Olmstead, the showrunner of FBI: International and the original showrunner for Organized Crime, is stepping in. Olmstead will help to complete the filming of the remaining episodes of Season 5.
L & O Organized Crime Spoilers – A Spinoff, Premiering In 2021
Organized Crime, which debuted in 2021, is a spinoff of Law & Order: SVU in which Detective Elliot Stabler (Chris Meloni) navigates his role in the NYPD’s Organized Crime Control Bureau. Over its four-season run, the series has experienced a series of changes in showrunners.
Ilene Chaiken took the reins from Olmstead just before the first season aired, followed by Barry O’Brien for Season 2. The show then saw Bryan Goluboff and Sean Jablonski take over.
David Graziano, the showrunner for SVU, stepped in to oversee the final three episodes of Season 3. For Season 4, Shiban assumed the role of showrunner but departed in early November 2024.

This absence sparked concerns among viewers about a potential cancellation. However, it was revealed back in May that Season 5, featuring 10 episodes, would be available on Peacock rather than NBC.

Organized Crime has proven to be an exceptionally successful series; it’s not one that was ever in jeopardy. Jeff Bader, President of Program Planning Strategy at NBCUniversal Entertainment, shared the fact with TV Line.
“This show resonates with a wide audience and performs remarkably well on streaming platforms. Transitioning Season 5 to Peacock is a beneficial move for us—80 percent of its viewership occurs outside of its scheduled time slot, primarily on Peacock. Therefore, it was a logical decision to make this shift to optimize our programming schedule.”
Law And Order Organized Crime Spoilers – Season Five’s Premiere Date Not Yet Announced
The premiere date for Season 5 has yet to be revealed. Mariska Hargitay, known for her role as Captain Olivia Benson on SVU, is expected to make a guest appearance in the second episode of the season.
In an interview with People in August 2024, Meloni mentioned that he is in the process of writing Episode 2.
“It’s fantastic,” he remarked, adding, “But it comes with a lot of responsibility, so I want to get it right.” He also shared, “I know [Olivia] Benson will be involved with OC for a bit,” although he couldn’t disclose how long she would be featured.

He expressed, “I’m about to have a chance to… I’m not quite sure,” adding, “But I hope to delve deeper, to peel back some layers and reveal more emotional connection between them.”
Hargitay also teased a potential reunion with Meloni on Organized Crime, sharing with Variety in May, “I’m actually working on it-I just mentioned it to him the other day.
We ran into each other at a party recently, and it was wonderful; I met his showrunner, and they’re eager to see us together.
Chris and I discussed it, and it feels like the right moment;” she continued, “Now is the time for us-it’s been a long while since we’ve been in each other’s orbit.
