Elton John Reveals Health Issue Affecting His Ability to Finish New Album

When Elton John said farewell to touring, he still held hopes that he would be able to keep making music for at least the next couple of years. However, an unexpected health condition is making it harder and harder for the iconic singer to keep doing what he loves.

Elton John Opens Up About How A Particular Health Challenge Is Causing Album Delays

In case you don’t know, Elton John is currently working on a new album that longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin revealed will be “incredibly personal,” albeit not his last.

Announced last year, the album was originally expected to release before Christmas this year. However, the “Sacrifice” hitmaker’s ongoing battle with his eye infection is causing it to be delayed.

During his interview with Good Morning America, John confessed that he hasn’t been able to see out of his right eye for four months and that his left isn’t the greatest, following a severe infection. The ordeal has left the Rocketman feeling “stuck.”

Speaking on the project’s delay, he said: “I don’t know. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything, and well, I just have to get off my backside. I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.”

“So, there’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but… I’m kind of stuck at the moment, because I can do something like this [the interview], but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start.”

While it was a trying experience, he revealed that his mindset at the moment is to try to get better. He noted: “It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen, and it kind of floored me. And I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, can’t watch anything.”

Taupin had initially promised fans that the record was “all done” and “ready to come out,” but it seems fans will have to wait a while longer for it.

Elton John Updates Fans On His Ongoing Battle With Eye Infection

John has been pretty open with his fanbase about his ongoing battle with the condition. In September, he wrote on Instagram that he has started “healing” following the infection. “It’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

While John has suffered from multiple health conditions in recent years, including hip replacements and surgery for prostate cancer, he has continued to make different public appearances.
