Days of our Lives (DOOL) news shows that there is sad news to report, actor Wayne Northrop has died at the age of 77. He played Roman Brady on the Peacock sudser, appearing in over 1,036 episodes of the show from 1981 to 2006.
The actor’s publicist, Cynthia Snyder, told TMZ that Northrop Northrup died on Friday, November 29 at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home, which is an assisted living facility for veterans of the film industry.

Northrop was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s six years ago and needed full time care which necessitated his stay at the facility.
Northrup was married to Lynn Herring Northrop who plays Lucy Coe on ABC’s General Hospital. She issued a statement noting that the daytime star “was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 6 years ago” and “took his final breath in the arms of family.” She also thanked The Motion Picture and Television Home for the excellent care
Northrup received in the final years of his life.

Northrop made his film industry debut in the late 1970s, taking small roles on popular shows such as “Baretta” and “The Waltons.”
His big break came in 1981 when he nabbed a recurring role on “Dynasty.” Northrup was cast as Michael Culhane, the chauffer to oil tycoon Blake Carrington, played by John Forsythe. In all, he starred in 35 episodes of the blockbuster show.

As an actor Northrup was best known for his enduring role as Roman Brady on the longtime daytime drama “Days of Our Lives.” On DOOL Roman was paired with Marlena Evans (Deidra Hall)and they were considered one of the genre’s first super couples.
Their popularity was so great that Northrup was labeled one of daytime’s hottest stars. In 2005, the actor rejoined DOOL as Dr. Alex North.
The enduring popularity of Hall and Northrup was too great to ignore and the second time around the actor was once again paired with Hall, playing a former medical school classmate of Doc.
Wayne Northrup Has Died at Age 77
DOOL was not the only soap Northrup starred in. He jumped over to ABC’s General Hospital spinoff, Port Charles (1997-2003). There he starred as dark and dangerous Rex Stanton. His other credits include “The Young Riders,” “L.A. Law,” “Hotel,” and “Cold Case.”
Northrup graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of Washington and was fluent in German. He married GH star Lynn Herring in 1981 and the two of them, along with sons Hank and Grady, lived on a working cattle ranch in California.
