The History Of Days Of Our Lives’ Steven Olson

Longtime Days of Our Lives’ fans were in for quite a treat this week as the return of several long forgotten faces made their way to Salem to celebrate the life of beloved patriarch, Doug Williams. And none created quite as much excitement as Steven Olson, played by his 1978-79 portrayer, Stephen Schnetzer.

While Schnetzer may be most remembered by soap fans for his role as Cass Winthrop on Another World, (particularly by my mother, whose cat Cassie was named after said character) his journey in Salem was also a memorable one.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Who was Steven Olson?

Steven Olson was a part of the show from its very first episode all the way back on November 8, 1965. The son of Addie Horton and Ben Olson had a few residencies in Salem for the first decade or so, being portrayed by various actors.

However the version of the character most audiences came to know and love made his debut in 1978, by way of the afore mentioned Stephen Schnetzer, when Julie ran into her little brother in Paris – a city I’m learning is the size of my local Target – and insisted he return home with her and Doug.

Trouble began almost immediately as Steven accepted a job working for Doug at his coffee house where he skimmed tips. Julie, having been a bit of a troubled youth herself, forgave Steven and gave him a second chance by offering him a partnership in her antique business.

Steven repaid her generosity by selling counterfeit antiques and nearly getting Julie imprisoned for the crime.

Then, tired of petty crimes which dealt only in the theft and forgery arenas, he upped his game the next year by dabbling in narcotics, agreeing to store cocaine inside some antique canes for a drug smuggler associate named Durand.

But when Maggie unknowingly sold several of the coke-filled canes in Julie’s store, Steven feared he would fingered for the crime.

Rather than facing a life in prison sentence or even worse, death at the hands of Durand for selling off his product, Steven left town. And until this past week, he was never seen or heard from again.

Despite not having set foot in Salem since before cookies and cream was an ice cream flavor, the now reformed almost felon came home to support his big sister during her time of loss and pay his own respects to his brother-in-law.

He only stayed a few days but still managed to still get himself entangled in a few shenanigans, including nearly stopping Stefan’s heart beating in Julie’s chest when he attempted to sneak in through her bedroom window, trading nefarious anecdotes over cocktails with the lovable Leo Stark, and being accused of stealing a priceless diamond necklace from the Horton time capsule.

And it seems this was just enough time for viewers to fall back in love with him, as fans are already begging the show to bring him back permanently.

DOOL Spoilers – Leo Stark And Steven Olson Team Up!

With fans so eagerly clamoring for Steven Olson to return to Salem for good, it begs the question of what could bring him home to stay? During his brief encounter with Leo, a fast friendship ignited between the two.

(That alone is reason enough to bring Steven back to town! Leo needs a friend, especially one who understands his devious past and doesn’t judge him for it.)

Since we know Body and Soul will be airing its final episode soon, it’s safe to assume Mr. Stark is yet again going to be out of a job. Wouldn’t it be great to see him team up with his new pal as he embarks down whatever path his career takes him next?

Perhaps the two could become a private consulting team and help the Salem PD solve crimes (Lord knows they need any help they can get!) The duo could use their own experiences in stolen goods to catch new thieves in the act.

Or perhaps he he could return as an outside third party planning to take over Titan while Phillip and Xander are busy fighting each other for it. We got virtually no information as to Steven’s current occupation or life work while he was in town.

All we know is that he is a changed man from his days as a con man. But in Salem, former con men often make the best CEOs.

So what if Steven came back to make a play for Victor’s company, forcing Phillip and Xander to have to work together to keep their family from losing it altogether? That could be fun to watch!

DOOL Spoilers – Steven Olson Falls For Kristen!

Or maybe Mr. Olson returns for something simpler than any of that. Maybe he returns for love.

While he did mention having a son Spencer, there was no mention of a Mrs. (or Mr.) Olson in his life. What if the reason Steven hasn’t been able to get his happily ever after is because he left his heart in Salem?

With the unfortunate passing of Drake Hogestyn, we know Marlena will soon be finding herself a widow. Will she be maybe find love again in a familiar face from all those years ago?

Or what about Kristen? Yes, I will always be a “Bristen” advocate first and foremost, but maybe there could be another man with just enough of a dark side to not only fall for the DiMera heiress, but also break down her walls and win her affections in return.
