Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monsters’ brought Lyle and Erik Menéndez‘s story to a whole new audience decades after the brothers were sentenced to life in prison for murdering their parents.
These days, the brothers are making a plea to be released, with their legal team providing new evidences that support Lyle and Erik’s original claim that they murdered their parents as a result of their father sexually assaulting them as minors.
In the meantime, Cooper Koch happens to think ‘Monsters’ Golden Globe noms would be beneficial to the brothers’ amid their ongoing quest for freedom.
Cooper Koch – Is Excited Lyle And Erik Menéndez’s Story Is Getting A Big Stage
Cooper Koch has actually met Lyle and Erik Menéndez in prison following the release of the series, and he can’t wait to get in contact with them again to break the good news.
Playing Erik Menéndez in the series brought Koch instant fame, with the star even receiving Golden Globe nominations for his role in the show. As excited as he is that this “big moment” has finally come for him, he’s also excited about what it could mean for the brothers’ case.
“That’s what I’m most happy about, is that they get a big stage,” Koch explained.
The series also managed to snag a nomination in the coveted category for best television limited series, anthology series or a motion picture made for television. In addition to this, Javier Bardem received a supporting actor nomination for his portrayal of Jose Menéndez in the true crime series.
At present, even though Koch has no direct way of contacting the brothers, he is hopeful that they’ll somehow get to chat about the movie’s latest success.
When they do hear the news, Koch is convinced that “they’re going to be so happy and excited. “That’s honestly something I’m most happy and excited about, that I get to have another moment to talk about them and advocate for them.”
The nominations likely eased some stress off Koch, who revealed that he “couldn’t sleep” a whole day prior to the announcements. “I woke up at like 4:45, and then my partner and I put it on YouTube and we started watching and then heard my name and screamed and hugged and freaked out.”
