Riley Keough Breaks Silence on Omitted Memoir Detail

Keough Breaks Silence on Omitted Memoir DetailPrior to her death in January 2023, Lisa Marie Presley was working on a memoir. Following her death, her daughter Riley Keough found it prudent to complete the memoir and publish it.

To do so, she listened to a series of voice tapes left behind by her mother, and something she said in one of them encouraged her to leave an anecdote that quickly made headlines immediately the book hit the shelves.

It had to do with where her late brother’s body was kept before his burial. Are you sure you’re ready for this?

Riley Keough – Opens Up About ‘From Here To the Great Unknown’s’ Most Vulnerable Moments

Riley Keough has been touring her mother’s posthumous memoir since it dropped in October, and in her latest chat on Open Book With Jenna podcast with Jenna Bush Hager, she talked about her brother Benjamin Keough’s death and how his suicide in 2020 affected her mother.

“My brother’s body was something I thought about taking out, but my mom was so — in the tapes — does not give a s— that people would know that,” Riley said of the controversial line that exposed how her mother stored her brother’s body for months.

According to the book, Lisa Marie had kept her son’s body in her home for months after his death.

“I think it would scare the living f—ing piss out of anybody else to have their son there like that,” Lisa Marie wrote. “But not me.”

Riley Keough Was “Protective” of Her Late Mother’s Legacy When Compiling Memoir

Even though Riley initially felt the need to pull that amazing revelation from the book, something her mom said in one of her tapes convinced her to leave it in.

“I was protective of her,” Riley explained on the podcast. “I think when my brother passed away, she didn’t want to write about anything but my brother. And she wanted to write about grief, but she’d already started, you know, an autobiography. And so, she was confused at what to do.”

In the portion she wrote, the actress tried her best to cover her mother’s life as someone she’s known and loved all her life.

“I think she really wanted it to feel elegant and true to her, but she also didn’t like talking about herself and she was very shy. So, I think that her thought was like, ‘You know me better than I know me,’” Riley said. “It was this thing that was incomplete that I was the only person who could finish.”
