General Hospital Comings and Goings: Jonathan Jackson Officially OUT, Lucky Spencer Exits GH

General Hospital (GH) spoilers note that back in August 2024, fans were over the moon about Jonathan Jackson re-entering the land of Port Charles as Lucky Spencer.
Well, less than a year later, it looks like the character and actor are leaving the show. More details on this story, below.
Lucky Spencer’s Exit Has Been Hinted
According to Soap Opera Digest (SOD), Jackson’s current stint with the ABC soap will be coming to an end as of next week.
His exit was hinted at during the Thursday, June 5 episode, when Lucky proposed to Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and was turned down. Lucky implied that he could not live in the little town knowing he and Liz could not “be together”.
Jonathan Jackson’s Time As Lucky Spencer
Jackson originated the role of Lucky in 1991, at the young age of 11, becoming a major part of the GH cast and storylines as the iconic Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) and Laura Spencer’s (Genie Francis) son. Jackson’s first exit was in 1999, earning three Daytime Emmys in the Outstanding Young Actor category before his departure.
The actor reprised his Lucky Spencer role in 2009, after both Jacob Young and Greg Vaughan were recast in the part. Jackson accumulated two more Daytime Emmy awards during this stint, except this time as Supporting Actor, and would end up leaving GH once again in 2011. He returned for a short run in 2015.
Sadly, as hyped up as fans were to see Lucky return to Port Charles, his comeback storyline lacked luster. In fact, other than his reunion with Elizabeth, which wasn’t overly incredible, Lucky didn’t have much of a storyline at all.
Regarding Jackson’s departure, Executive Producer of the show, Frank Valentini, told Daytime Confidential:
“We were so glad Jonathan was able to reprise the role of Lucky, even if it was for a limited time. We wish him nothing but the best, and the door is always open for Jonathan to return.”

This sucks! Liz and Lucky are one of my favorite couple. He had a lack of story because the writers didn’t give him one. Give him a story and get rid of Drew, Natalie and wi!low also Portia.
All these great actors leaving should make the GH writers think there’s something wrong here.this used to be !y all time favorite soap but the last few years a lot of my friends and fellow watchers have been watching other stuff. GH has lost its pazzas! No excitement no reason to watch anymore
I don’t know why everyone’s so shocked. I knew the first day JJ was back that he’d never last. He has no sense of commitment, he never had and he never gives a though about the cost or inconvenience he causes. He fly’s in and plays until he’s bored or his band gets a gig and then he’s gone. I hope this time GH leaves the nasty looking bum gone.
Here we go again another loved actor leaving the show, what in God’s green earth are the people running the show thinking?!
So many favorites are gone, I do not know how much longer I can keep watching, these storylines are plain ridiculous, do they think everyone that watches the show are brainless, come on, give me a break. I do not know how much longer the show can go on like this, everything is not good in show, stop and also bring back our original actors and actresses!
You either get rid of them or make it unbearable to stay!
I’m sad to see the Lucky character leave. He’s a very talented actor. I’ve watched him grow. I just wish that he acted less like Tony.
Everyone who knows the Lucky charecter and JJ the actor knew he wasn’t going to stat. He actually stayed longer than I thought he would. I don’t know why they keep bringing him back. This time around his chemistry with Liz has died and even her and Laura had no mother/son bond. They were more like aquaintances who hadn’t seen each other for awhile… Glad he’s gone.
I think Jonathan Jackson came in for a limited timeframe because of his schedule. If he didn’t perform up to the standards that we have always seen him do, it was the writers fault. Because of the set time, his performance was written so that he would leave with very little open ended story lines left. He touched bases with all of his family and friends. The major connection was his true love, Elizabeth. Unfortunately, she has built up a wall due to him being gone most of their adult lives. Maybe when he leaves this time he will be in contact with Elizabeth and his son and especially his mother. Shame on you writers for writing such a flat storyline for Lucky! That is if he ever decides to come back!
Besides always looking disheveled, he was just phoning it in. The story line made NO SENSE & his lackluster performance didn’t help any of it. Wish him luck in future endeavors, maybe another music gig, but no loss for GH. MAYBE THEY CAN FIND A REAL MAN, not a Peter Pan type, for Liz.
He hasn’t even been back a year! Why even bring him back!!
Why why Jackson /lucky leaves again why can you just end it with true love coiuple find each other finally .not fair .where is Jackson going now a new tv show or movie now? and is Liz staying or hope not involved with stupid Rick . Is Nina going to leave .

Yes I am sorry to see Jonahan Jackson too was hoping he would have more of a shot line and stay but I wish the best for him and hopefully he will return in the future.
Jonathan had no storyline to work with. If he was staying, he needed to present himself better as a grownup adult, but his hair change his clothes. Elizabeth deserves A better lovrlife. She had had no luck with men. Sending Lucky away will open her life together things I hope.
Very extremely sad to hear about his departure. I have loved Lucky since day one. He is a special actor and will be sadly missed…!!!!
I don’t understand why the writers keep getting rid of vettrens they are the heart of genral hospitaL!
i am so upsett that they didn;t give him a good story to work with Gennie Frances ,Or Nickles get him out of jail, or find what happend to sam?? so much mattteral that couldbe used what a waste in the writers!!!
