General Hospital star Adrian Anchondo (Marco Rios) got a lot of praise from ABC fans when he opened up to Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) on Sunday’s State of Mind podcast this weekend. New to the show as the son of mobster Gennaro Sidwell, he’s also well-known from other shows like NCIS: Los Angeles and Law & Order: Organized Crime.
Revealing Psychic Sensitivity?
As usual with Maurice, the two men discussed his life growing up, and he mentioned a nasty earthquake that he experienced as a child. However, the conversation soon moved on to talk about anxiety, the fear of failure as an actor, and something else that seemed rather interesting.

It was a long conversation, but his empathic side came through. Did you know that he’s so sensitive to others, that he almost feels like he has a psychic side to his personality? He told the real-life Sonny Corinthos:
I’ve felt so empathetic to the point where I felt people’s sicknesses before. Like I’ve been in a room with and talked with someone and been like feeling like I’m coming down with something and I’ll ask them like, ‘Are you feeling like do you feel sick?'” and they’ll tell me like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m getting over something or whatever.'” And then once I’m not with them anymore, I don’t feel it anymore.
Vulnerability Comes Through
Speaking about his mental health, Adrian Anchondo said that his meds have “been off for a few weeks.” He takes meds to help with anxiety. The GH star added, “I am noticing a difference. Things that make me happy are not making me happy right now.” He talked about suffering from fatigue “all the time,” and he tends to suffer from “brain fog.” Then, he admitted “it’s a scary place to be.”
On set, the cast seem to be very supportive when his confidence takes a knock. So, Adrian related how he struggled during an episode and “someone noticed.” He related how they told him, ‘Adrian, breathe. You’re going to be okay. Just breathe.'” I was like, ‘Thank you so much for saying that because I know I’m doing a good job, breathing is important.'”
Fans Express Their Feelings About Adrian
The most common reaction from GH fans seems to be about how Adrian Anchondo seems to have deep vulnerability, along with great ethics in real life as well on the show. He seemed to be very honest and raw, which folks love.
One fan gushed, “As a newer character on the show he comes across as very vulnerable, sensitive and kind. Your interview with him Maurice, showed that he has those traits even when not acting.” They added, “Thank you both for your raw honesty.”
Here are a few more reactions:
- Adrian you are a fabulous actor…been watching GH 55 plus yrs…your doing a great job.
- This was one of the best interviews. Adrian is such a beautiful person.
- Thank you Adrian for speaking openly with honesty and vulnerability.. trying not to lose yourself in someone else’s sadness and embracing the demon in your dreams resonated deeply. Your character Marco brings an intensity and empathy that reminds me of the late Tyler Christopher, great onscreen presence.
That seems like high praise indeed. What do you think about Maurice Benard bringing Adrian onto the podcast? Are you glad that he did? Let us know in the comments below, and come back here often for all your General Hospital cast news and updates.
