The Young and the Restless spoilers hint that with a total of four character deaths in a matter of weeks, not to mention major changes occurring at CBS, many viewers are concerned about the show’s fate.
The long-time running soap opera does well in the ratings; however, no daytime drama is ever truly safe from getting cancelled. Time to talk about this.
Character Deaths Have Rocked Fans
The Young and the Restless spoilers suggest that many fans have been rocked by the passing of Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck), Damian Kane (Jermaine Rivers), Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd), and even Carter (Vincent Stalba), Cane Ashby’s (Billy Flynn) loyal assistant.
While Carter’s demise made sense, considering he wasn’t an established character, Cole’s passing didn’t, and neither did Damian’s.
After all, Damian was hyped up a lot when he first entered the canvas, mere months ago, in February 2025.
Why go through all that to bring back Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic), long-lost brother, if he was going to be given the boot?
Plus, as a legacy character, many fans wished that Chance had exited in a different fashion. While most know that Conner Floyd is headed to Days of Our Lives, slipping into the Chad DiMera role, and the actor had been dropped down to recurring status recently, was a death necessary?
CBS Layoffs Are Concerning
Add in the fact that the CBS network has had some concerning layoffs, including correspondents, like Pamela Falk and Jeff Pegues, as well as CBS Studios’ EVP and Head of Casting for streaming series, Deborah Aquila, and it’s no wonder Y&R fans are worried about a possible cancellation.
The network’s late-night lineup has been impacted, too, with CBS axing The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and its final show airing in May 2026. Not to mention the 800 employees CBS laid off, as per a report by the New York Post back in early 2024.
With all that said, for the time being, fans will continue to see Y&R storylines unfold as the show has been renewed up until the 2027/28 season.
