Michael Strahan from Good Morning America took to social media this week to share a photo and message of support for Deion Sanders, soon after Sanders revealed he’s now cancer-free. Read on to see what he said.

Positive Support For Deion

In the photo, on X, formerly Twitter, Sanders was seen standing next to his old friend, Michael, and Strahan praised his long-standing commitment to young athletes. It was a nice clean photo, accompanied by an extremely supportive caption.

Michael Strahan said:

Proud of my brotha Deion Sanders. He has continued to fight and do it while using his platform to help others. Love you my man… and can’t wait to see you back out there doing what you are meant to do, COACH!!

Next, the famous face from GMA added, “He ain’t new to this, he’s true to it… if you don’t believe he’s doing this for the love of the kids and giving young men and women an opportunity on and off the field, I respectfully ask you to please think again.”

A Tough Fight Against Cancer

Sanders, the head coach at the University of Colorado, announced late last month, that he’d beaten bladder cancer after undergoing major surgery. His bladder was removed and rebuilt using intestinal tissue. His doctor confirmed that the cancer is gone.

Additionally, he struggled with blood clots that ended up with him having two toes amputated. He also battled diabetes-related complications. And yet, he stays active on the field and is becoming vocal about health checks and cancer awareness.

In fact, he also joked about how fans might see him using a “porta-potty” next to the field.

A Deep Understanding

Michael Strahan understands first-hand how difficult cancer can be. His daughter, Isabella Strahan, endured chemotherapy and brain surgery. Last October, he openly shared his fear for her life. Thankfully, she showed progress during treatment, and a year ago, she revealed that she had begun recovering and her hair was growing back.

Obviously, Michael knows the terror of watching a loved one fight for survival. He’s witnessed the hard toll of treatment and the personal strength required to push forward. That’s why his support for Deion Sanders goes beyond mere respect for a fellow footballer. He admires those who get knocked down and keep rising back up.

Fans React In The Comments

Because this was on X, as usual, unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about vaccines flooded the comments. However, others appreciated the message that Michael Strahan shared. Here are a few of those reactions:

  • Awesome! Deion!
  • Beautiful pic! Thx 4using your platform 4the greater good…
  • Prayers to @DeionSanders.
  • God bless him.
