Law & Order SVU spoilers and updates reveal Sgt. Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) was an important part of the SVU for many years and has now returned after a break. Ice-T is well-known for his love for Coco from a reality show about his real-life marriage — but he also has affection for Kelli.
Ice-T Is Celebrating The Return Of His TV Partner
Tracy Lauren Marrow, widely recognized as Ice-T, the rapper and television personality, is thrilled about the return of his long-time partner in crime-fighting on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Kelli Giddish. “It’s fantastic,” he shares with Entertainment Weekly, expressing his excitement over the news that the actress portraying Sgt.
Amanda Rollins will be rejoining the cast as a series regular for season 27. “I cherish everyone who has been part of the show; I’ve never experienced a bad day with any of the cast or guest stars,” but he emphasizes that “Kelli is truly a sweetheart.”
“The manner in which they shuffle the deck on SVU leaves everyone in the dark about what’s happening,” he goes on.
However, series lead and executive producer Mariska Hargitay “missed her — Kelli; I believe the fans missed her too-the fans played a significant role in her return.”
Kelli Giddish Has Played Amanda Rollins Off And On Since 2011
Giddish became part of the enduring police procedural in 2011, starting with season 13, and remained a series regular until halfway through season 24.
She made appearances again in seasons 25 and 26 and is set to return full-time when the new season debuts next month, and her TV partner is excited!
Ice-T, who portrays the tough yet compassionate Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, mentioned that he wasn’t overly concerned about Giddish’s break. He could see it as part of the natural ebb and flow of actors coming and going in the television landscape created by mega-producer Dick Wolf.
He then spoke about when Christopher Meloni, who plays Elliot Stabler left the show and ended up returning to the franchise after a few years.
Ice-T Continues To Speak About Meloni And Giddish
Ice-T shares, “I understand that when Christopher Meloni departed, it was his decision; he ventured off to pursue films and other projects, and eventually returned to do Organized Crime,” Ice-T elaborates.
“The fascinating aspect of the Wolf universe is that you can meet your end on SVU and then reappear on Chicago Fire, you know? So as long as you keep on Dick Wolf’s good side, you’re likely to have a job.”
Giddish seems to have maintained a positive rapport with everyone, featuring in several episodes over the last two seasons of SVU even after she said goodbye as a regular cast member.
“Portraying Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and honors of my life,” she expressed in 2022; “There is truly no other character on television quite like Rollins.”
Ice-T Agrees With Giddish’s Statement About Herself
Ice-T agrees with Giddish’s evaluation of herself, stating, “I love Kelli-she has become very close to me-so when I heard they were bringing her back, I was overwhelmed and thrilled.” He had earlier mentioned feeling “blindsided” by Giddish’s departure, which fans also consider one of the most surprising exits in the history of the Law & Order franchise.
“Nobody really anticipated her leaving the show-we were caught off guard by that,” Ice-T remarked in June. “However, the fans expressed their desire to see Kelli return, so she is coming back.” Kelli also spoke about her reasons for returning to the procedural series.
Giddish Shared Her Reasons With Entertainment Weekly Last Year
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly last year, Giddish expressed her motivations for coming back, referring to SVU as her “home for such a long time” and expressing joy about “being invited back to play with all the people I cherish.
The writers had a fantastic idea of promoting Rollins to a sergeant at the NYPD Intelligence Bureau, which I found to be quite an intriguing approach.” Some of Kelli’s leaves of absence mirrored what was happening in real life, such as maternity leaves; she has three children.
Other times were due to salary disputes and also a decision over her and Mariska’s heads, “to freshen up the series,” in their words. Law & Order: SVU will be back for its 27th season on Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
