Hallmark Channel Horror – Is The Network Dabbling In A New Genre?

Hallmark Channel Horror – Is The Network Dabbling In A New Genre?Hallmark Channel has built a brand for romantic comedies, feel-good flicks, and holiday movies. With that said, they might be entering their horror genre era with the release of a new frightful film, ScareBNB. More details below.

ScareBNB – 411

According to Deadline, ScareBNB stars Kevin Alves and Tiera Skovbye. Fans might recall that Skovbye appeared in When Calls the Heart, Season 12, and Alves appeared on Showcase’s Yellowjackets.

The horror flick will begin filming in British Columbia, Canada, and the movie is about some college friends – Jennifer, Danielle, Evan, and Nicole – who head out to a summer vacay but end up in an abandoned cabin.

The friends realize they are being watched by a group who wants them dead, and there’s an eerie motive behind all this.

Horror With A Splash Of Humor

The Canadian director for the film, AJ Lutsky, hinted at what Hallmark viewers can expect with this film, stating, “When fear gives way to humor, it creates this incredible vulnerable space where we can think and reflect without realizing we are doing it. That’s the key to this film.”

In addition, Todd Slater notes that ScareBNB is “… a perfectly balanced slasher film with fun action and dark comedy.”

He goes on to say it is a flick that is, “… both commercially viable and creatively fresh.” (especially for a channel like Hallmark). The network has made some bold moves as of late, cutting 30 jobs and adding more ‘reality TV’ to its current lineup.

While Hallmark had once mentioned returning to its roots of ‘feel-good’ content, this new slasher flick seems to hint that the channel may be dipping its toes into something different to test the waters.

As of this writing, a premiere date has not been confirmed for ScareBNB, so fans will have to wait and see.

NO!!!! I definitely would NOT watch a “Horror” movie on Hallmark Channel-I don’t watch these anywhere else. I depend on Hallmark for “safe” enjoyable movies!! I like the “mysteries”, the “Wedding Veil” series, the “Foster Home” series, the “Groomsmen” series and the Christmas movies.
