Who Is Courtney Matthews On General Hospital?

General Hospital spoilers reveal that many fans don’t remember who Courtney Matthews is and we aim to fix that. She is the daughter of Mike Corbin (Max Gail) and Janine Matthews (DeLane Matthew) and the half-sister of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).

Alicia Leigh Willis played from Courtney 2001 to 2006 and won two Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Younger Actress” for her portrayal.  In 2006, Willis chose not to renew her contract. She was written off the show and the character was killed off.

Courtney was meant to be in her early 20s and full of personality. After coming to Port Charles she fell for and married A. J. Quartermaine (Sean Kanan). A.J. was a drunk and Courtney was blackmailed into stripping following one of his drunk driving accidents.

Next Courtney fell for Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and they married in a private ceremony in France. Courtney miscarried their child, straining the relationship and she is wary of his assassin lifestyle.
Courtney eventually decides that because of his lifestyle, where he could killed at any minute, she would rather leave him than watch him die and they divorce.

General Hospital spoilers – Courtney was a dynamic and fun personality

Later Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) and Courtney grow close and eventually fall in love. Then A.J. returns and announces his divorce with Courtney was never final. Ironically, he is presumed dead soon after. As a result Courtney and Jax marry in 2005 in a park.

Their marriage cannot stand the strain of a surrogate pregnancy and Courtney turns to married Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) and they have an affair.

Courtney has a miracle pregnancy and Jax changes the DNA test to say he is the father. Eventually in 2006, Courtney leaves town to have her baby. She returns and gets the encephalitis virus consuming Port Charles.

At that time she and Nikolas reunite. She has a difficult and premature childbirth and the choice must be made to save her or the baby—she chooses the baby.

At that point Jax admits to Courtney that Nikolas is the father. Courtney dies before she can tell Nikolas and Jax hides the truth, raising the baby as his own.

When the truth is finally revealed Nikolas changes the boy’s name to Spencer Cassadine. In May 2015, Courtney appeared to her Spencer to help him after he was burned in a fire.
