Prince Harry – Ukraine Trip & Interview Spark Backlash

Prince Harry - YouTube

As the world knows, Prince Harry recently visited the UK for WellChild and Invictus. He caught up with his dad, King Charles, amused his fans by engaging in a balloon sword fight, and irritated multitudes of other royal family watchers. This weekend, commentators were talking about his visit to Ukraine, and more. Read on for more details.

The Ukraine Interview

In Ukraine, the Duke of Sussex sat down with The Guardian and later, Perez Hilton, the “queen of all media,” analyzed the situation on his YouTube channel on Sunday night. He commented on Harry’s trip, noting that it became a vehicle for publicity.

According to Hilton, the Duke’s actions were “next level delulu,” making it difficult for even a neutral observer to understand his motivations.

Perez Hilton acknowledged Harry’s difficult upbringing and his “dysfunctional” relationships with his father and brother. However, Hilton questioned why Harry spoke about his family so soon after his recent London meeting.

Demanding Truth Before Reconciliation

In his interview, Harry said, “You cannot have reconciliation before you have truth.”  Perez noted that he attempted to explain his continued public comments, saying, “I know that speaking out annoys some people and it goes against the narrative.” Additionally, he claimed,  “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public.”

Hilton seemed gobsmacked by the statement, especially given the contents of Prince Harry’s book, Spare. He reminded viewers that Harry’s book contained numerous detailed personal stories that were not corrections to a previous narrative. Plus, he noted many stories, like the one about the fight with his brother, first originated in the memoir.

Motivated By Money & Lifestyle

Perez Hilton proposed a different theory for Harry’s recent moves. He pointed to the Sussexes’ luxurious lifestyle in Montecito and its high costs, particularly for their security team. Therefore, Hilton believes “most of what Prince Harry does” must be viewed “through the lens of this is somebody navigating and acting from a place of need, wanting, needing money.”

The social commentator also suggested the couple’s actions were driven by financial need, especially since they spend a great deal but haven’t earned as much as some other celebrity families. He also opined that living like a Kardashian isn’t exactly cheap.

A Two-Way Street

Talking about Kyiv, Perez questioned why he would even go there as a non-working royal. After all, apart from publicity for himself, what else could he accomplish in Ukraine? Finally, Perez Hilton directly addressed Harry’s claim that his book was about “accountability,” not “revenge.”

He argued that accountability should be a two-way street and questioned if Harry ever took any responsibility for his own mistakes. Wrapping it up, Hilton found a disconnect between what Prince Harry says and what he does. Harry stated he wants to spend more time in the UK and see his father more often, even as his comments continue to fuel family tensions.

While Harry insists that he is happy and his conscience is clear, Perez Hilton’s analysis suggested that the Duke’s actions are driven by a need for money and attention.

The commentator returned to Harry’s own quote that “you cannot have reconciliation before you have truth,” which he believes presents a great irony given the royal family’s “never complain, never explain” policy.

Royal Family Fans React

In the comments section, not a lot of folks showed much love for Prince Harry and his various viewpoints about his family. One of them wrote, “I wonder how the royal family hid his idiocy for that long… he left that umbrella and now he can’t hide his true character.”

Here are a few more opinions from the discussion area:

  • To be a good liar, you need a good memory, and Harry doesn’t have that, nor does Meghan.
  • This interview is a result of his failure to get Charles to agree to his demands.
  • Harry is despicable, he dragged his family through the mud for money. He repeatedly betrayed them with omissions, twisting of the facts and outright lies. He is trying to gaslight the public with this insane notion you can rewrite, in this case, very recent history.
