James Franco Credits Time On General Hospital When Snagging Oscar-Nominated Film Role

James Franco Credits Time On General Hospital When Snagging Oscar-Nominated Film RoleGeneral Hospital spoilers remind fans that while Roger Howarth was the last person to play Franco Baldwin before the character passed away, movie star James Franco originated the role back in 2009.

It was quite the coup at that time since James Franco’s film career was thriving, being in top box office hits like Spider-Man and Never Been Kissed. The actor recently talked about how his time on the ABC soap helped him snag an Academy Award-nominated film role.

Franco Baldwin In Port Charles

Franco Baldwin was only slated for a short run at General Hospital in 2009, about two months, but he ended up returning in 2010, 2011, as well as 2012. In 2013, soap vet Howarth (now on The Young and the Restless as Matt Clark/Mitch Bacall) was recast in the role.

Sadly, Franco was offed by Peter August (Wes Rasmey) in 2021. Franco was in a loving marriage with nurse Elizabeth “Liz” Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) at the time of his passing.

James Franco’s Respect For Soaps

According to Variety, James Franco reflected on his time filming the movie 127 Hours recently, where he played Aron Ralston, a canyoner who found himself trapped in a canyon, thanks to a boulder, and amputated his arm to save his life. The film received six Academy Award nods, which included a nomination for James’ performance in the movie.

James notes that while he didn’t click with the director, his General Hospital training helped him win over Danny Boyle to snag the part. James states, “There’s not much dialogue in [127 Hours], but there’s one big speech.”

James goes on to say, “I’m basically saying goodbye to my family. Before that, on General Hospital, we would shoot 80-90 pages in one day. I became very good at memorizing my lines, fast.”

The actor added, “We did it, and Danny said: ‘You’re the guy.’” … and the rest was cinematic history!

I would like writers to reveal who killed Dr. Gatlin Holt. He was seen on the floor at Wyndermere and almost never heard of again. To my memory there was no police investigation as was done with Cates. Why pen a story implement actions for that story and then sweep it under the rug. I admit I do miss some episodes but can’t remember anything anything about Gatlin Holt other than him being shot.
